JRC Pirtex Sleeping Bag

........ maybe I'm being a thicko but how do I clean my bag, there's no label on it other than one saying follow manufactures care instructions (which I never received !!!). Can I simply stuff it in the washing machine (if it'll fit !!!!) or do I need to send it away to a specialist dry cleaner????

One good reason to do something is better than a thousand bad excuses not to.

I have to admit to being a dirty so and so and have never washed a sleeping bag :( I would be inclined to get it dry cleaned though, rather than washing it in a normal machine. You could always phone up JRC to ask though.

I spoke to guy @ JRC and apparently bag can go in washing machine but only on a 30 degree wash cycle. Think I'm going to send it to a professional dry cleaner though. I've been quoted £15-20 to have it professionally cleaned and they will be insured if anything goes wrong. don't think it'll fit im my machine at home anyway.

wash! your as bad as my mrs ,i had a 1944 american mountain issue sleeping bag for my nights ,probably never washed from new ,forbidden to bring it indoors though .saddly chucked it this year the material was becoming rotten and shed feathers everytime it moved ,farewell old friend :(

tried patching it but the fabric was too far gone to hold the stitches.

modern fillings can take machine washing but the mrs just washes our camping ones in the bath ,then piles it up one end to drain with a good rinsing ,dry flat though on a minky

I don't know if dry cleaners still use chemicals that give off toxic fumes (carbon tetrachloride?), but I remember a case of somebody who died (this was years ago, mind) after sleeping in a dry cleaned bag that had not been properly aired before use. Might be as well to be on the safe side, anyway?

You need to speak to Trakker, not JRC !

Stupid me !!!!

Thanks kestrel, it was "TRAKKER" I needed to talk to and not JRC. Be warned one and all, the lady @ Trakker was absolutely adamant that you should NOT have their bags dry cleaned. She recommended a warm (woolen) type was, short spin cycle and dry them on a flat surface. Under no circumstances should they be put in a tumble drier.

Is this bag pile and pertex? if so ive been using a similar thing for years from Buffalo and yes it can be thrown in the machine but keep it cool 40 deg c and tumble dry it on a low heat too.

Ive been using mine for 8 years fishing and mountaineering in temps to -28 c and its still good.
