Now that is about the daftest thing I've heard since I overheard two women talking politics on a bus in Glasgow. On said unto t'other 'Ahm votin' Labour cause my man's a labourer.' Rabbit will vote any turkey as long as he is a turkey with a blue rosette. It does not happen very often, but on this I agree with chesters, they are all a bunch of liars.

Do you HONESTLY think that the majority voters actually read listen or read whats in any party manifesto? You illustrated my point re the Glasgow bus (Did you borrow that from the Big Yin  ) OK there is a small drift of voters that switch loyalties every election, thats why we change governments every so often. But on the whole its a no brainer if you live in Glasgow its Celtic or Rangers, in Bristol it's City or Rovers. Thats the sort of blind loyalty I can understand

BTW my come ''hell or highwater'' comment it was meant to be tongue in cheek. Sorry I had to explain :D

Don't forget as well we aren't really a democracy.

In the recent council elections, my ward was offered two choice, Labour or Conservative

well we are really a democracy. The problem is many people don't understand what democracy is :)

If you wanted a third option not being put forward there is nothing stopping you from standing. Get sufficient support and you will be elected.

When you elct some one you elect them to represent you. No matter what their politics.

Most councillors, and MP's actually do a good job of representation provided people contact them directly.

but they are allowed to leave military service if they wish...

and I didn't know you were military :D

The principal still applies that yes we are a democracy and that anyone barring a small number of groups is allowed to stand. We are not perfect as a society - far from it, but we most certainly are a democracy :)

And absolutely no offence taken :)
