i saw the most awaome thing ever at this evening!! (i'm at work) The sea is calm at the moment and there is no wind, plus the sun is fairly warm well for aberdeen it is anyway!! so neway with it being calm and clear you could see quite a way into the water. and off the west side of the platform there were at least 15 sharks swimming about just below the surface with there dorsal fins sticking out the water - like jaws! It was mental, you could see tham really clearly and the stayed there for ages just swimming around! the biggest ones were about 15 feet long! Almost definately porbeagles i would say.

years ago (about when the jaws film came out :D )i was standing on the cliffs at folkestone and spotted a couple of basking sharks? slowly cruising about 30ft out parralel to the beach ,there was a distinctive exit from the sea as they were spotted :D lots of people tried throwing stones at them but they swam on still parrallel oblivious to the commotion they were causing, they swam for about a mile before disapearing, a great site, saw them ??? a couple of other times before we moved :D

I work on an oil rig about 100 miles miles north east of aberdeen, they were almost definately porbeagles, they had white markings at the base of their dorsals which porbeagleas have apparently, acording to what sombody looked up on the net after we had seen them. They are still there now, saw about 5 this afternoon when i first went out, (am on nights), it is difficult to judge the size but i would say the biggest would be 15 feet, absolutley definatley over 10 feet anyway.

Yeah it would be pretty cool!

I dunno though, a guy said too me while we were stood looking at them bet you would like to fish for one of them, and i'm not all that sure, its kind of like some views shouldn't be photographed if you know what i mean? I reckon i got almost as much enjoyment out of watching them as i would catching one!
