  1. Thanks for the tips. Seaview a nice little jaunt from Bembridge! I will have a try and let you know what success I have. Hi ho hi ho hi ho it's off to fish I go...
  2. Hi. I am holiday next week, live on Isle of Wight, Bembridge, was wondering if anyone has seen any decent bass in? I have a new boat, only a dory so don't want to go too far out and want to see what I can catch. Anyone any luck?

  4. I come through Milford station each day on the train on the way from Portsmouth to Guildford. I have a question for you all. There is a beautiful looking fishery near the station. It almost makes me want to get my coarse gear out again... My question is this, two fold. Why is there hardly ever anyone there and is it any good? (I am aware thta the 2 answers may be related!) Ta. Baitpumps

Baitpumps! Now what is that all about? I seen them advertised with the ads saying things like they make your life easier. What do you do with them? (Careful now!) Stick in in the ground, couple of pumps and the worms get blown to the surface or something? The pictures I seen just look like a cosh with a bit sticking out the side. Please enlighten me. Ta
  6. For a moment I thought you meant you had a tattoo of onions! It takes all sorts.....
  7. You're building the 1000's of overpriced houses that lead to people taking on mortgages they can barely afford (6 & 7 X joint salaries!!!). The low interest rates only fuel the borrowing fire as people are encouraged to go further and further into debt. The A level fixing scam also smells of corruption at the top, Estelle Morris is accused of affecting the results and now I hear on the radio this morning the gov't has failed to reach it's targets for 11 year olds. Why are so many students supposedly failing? Did not the gov't promise to increase teachers pay in accordance with exam results? (ie performance related). Great concept, but oh dear! what do you do if the exam results look like beeing TOO good? Well I'll leave the rest to your imaginations, but I think the answer is very apparent don't you? You some kind of conspiracy freak or something?

  9. Sunday 8th September I thought it was time I took my 6 year old daughter fishing. I bought her a "get it all for £9.99" kit. Whippy rod with unlined, insufficient rings, clunky reel and naff monofil. We went to the lifeboat pier in Bembridge with a bucket of worms left over from my trip to the harbour the day before. "We will go for an hour or so" I told her and bought a car park ticket for 2 hours to give us some setting up time. 2 and a half hours later we run out of bait. She has caught, no let me tell you my total first. I get 2 fish, one bass and one wrasse. She catches 25. Yes, 25 fish, all wrasse. Till the day I die I will NEVER forget the look on her face when she hooked her first fish!   She had problems in learning to strike when there was a fish. She just started to wind. I try to explain how to lift the end of the rod a bit to strike, but then I think, "what the hell, she seems to be able to hook them" so I leave her to develop her own style. I started by helping her wind the fish up, but then she gets the hang of that and when she had done everything from cast to winding in her smile was even wider. (Can a person smile too far and the top of their head fall off?) I was going back and forth to her to help her out, missed some very nice bites, , but I don't care. She is now hooked, I am glad we ran out of bait! We would still be there I think. Now I get "Dad, can we go fishing at the weekend?" as soon as I get in. If people want to ban fishing, they will have to get past me & now Ellie too, and that I would love to see.......
  10. Isn't spraying ddt a bit un-environmental? So, the hunt sab people are not averse to killing animals. How can people make a distinction between one animal and another?
  11. FastWind or The Hammer
  12. I used to fish using Abu spoons, never found anything to better them. Bit expensive but worth it. Now I am back near the sea I have been looking around for some more. But there are none to be found. The site in the USA has rods and reels only, the Swedish site is closed and the UK one doesn't exist. Can anyone shed light on where I can get hold of any?
  13. I voted yes, but I agree with DavidP, there should always be a "skip this bit" button.

    Mosquitos

Load up sprats with alkaselzas and try to persuade them to eat them. Do they eat dead fish or only live ones?
  15. MarkV

    T.shirts?

Why not have: If I ain't moved in 15 hours I may be dead - or a carp fisherman. on the back [ 13. August 2002, 02:59 PM: Message edited by: MarkV ]
  16. I thought we were being good to our bodies! (Ignoring kebabs etc.) oh well, I will keep it up anyway. It tastes so nice. Has it been scientifically proven that nice equates to bad for you?
  17. I have used them, mixed success. I only used them where there was an elderberry growing over the bank, in the theory that the fish would be taking them already. Some days bag up on roach, others not a thing. Caught chub on them as well, not huge ones though. Oh yeah, some dace as well I think. If it grows and the fish can get to it, it is worth trying. However, used woodlice (woodlouces?) once where a rotten tree overhang the river. Not a bite. They are a sod to get on the hook too. [ 13. August 2002, 01:55 PM: Message edited by: MarkV ]
  18. Not sure when you fit in the difficult to say words intop an average conversation down the pub, you must be very posh Simon. The impossible to say on the otherhand, an average night I would say. You forgot one important one though. I want a curry, and make it hot. As hot as you can my good man. With lime pickle as well. I can take it!
  19. There's one in West Sussex too! runs through Midhurst. Nice little river, chub, dace, carp and trout.
  20. can't we count number of active rods? Double the number of carp anglers, cod and mackerel feathers multiply by 6. Makes us sound great then!
  21. I have to agree with the general sentiments shown in these posts. We as anglers should fight, if needed, our own fights. Angling covers all walks of life, from the kid in the inner city who fishes in the local canal stretch to the salmon and fly fishermen who have ghillies to help them. I am sure that there are people who are in the latter example who support the ca too. However we as a whole should NOT be conned into thinking that the ca are going to be our saviours. In my opinion, the ca see us as cannon fodder. "Get the anglers on board so that we are not seen as elitist. They have poor people too who will help us." No we mustn't. We need to look after ourselves! I am proud to say that I vote labour and have done since I was old enough to do so. However this does not mean I agree with everything they do. Far from it. This needs to be seen as a non-political item. Don't just roll over and accept any ban that MAY occur, but don't let's get swept up in an organisation that just wants to use us. This is how I feel about things. Mark

    Mosquitos

exploding gulls!!! Now this has to be worth a try!!! Does it work for ducks? I seem to remember a thread about annoying ducks..
  23. only had small carp and goldfish. that is why they never ate them then. thanx.
  24. I worked there for a couple of years. That was bad enough. What with the smell from the Mars factory and the general run down town centre, whats the shopping centre called? Queensmall or something isn't it? Can't imagine the queen going there, even if it is down the road.
