mind you the EA keep many fish in dustbins whilst electro fishing ,whilst pike are larger and suffer more theres little difference really few pike many smaller fish ,i expect the overall room per fish is more in the pikes case.

I don't think it is the barrel that is the problem but the lack of oxygenation.

The rounded shape is good since square corners are really bad for fish being held short term in tanks but without adequate water circulation with some air being added (and possibly the use of some 'calming' chemicals in the tank), you will get totally unnecessary fish deaths.

With proper equipment, holding the fish for a few hours is not harmful to them.

Sorry how on earth do you work out the shape of a barrel is suitable for pike?

how can they sit natorally in an upright barrel?

It's worse than I feared. I've just been talking to a guy who's in the PAC and he told me that the fish are put in these barrels and taken to be weighed which could be anything up to three miles!

You should read the thread on the Pike & Predators website - http://www.totalcoarsefishing.com/cgi-bin/...3541095/120#120

what we really need now is for all concerned pike anglers to register their disgust at the use of the barrells.

To that end can i suggest that everyone email their displeasure to the following addresses

mark@polefloats.com - Mark Lichtenburg organiser

dcalangling@dcalni.gov.uk - department of Culture Arts and leisure

keith.collen@fermanagh.gov.uk - Organiser for Fermanagh District council

info@nitb.com - NI Tourist board.

It is important that these emails are kept polite and are not abusive in any way and just focus upon the fact that

you will not be visiting NI or the Fermanagh area to fish whilst these barrels are still in use

that you think the retention of pike in such a manner is uneccessary and unwise for the conservation of pike stocks.

thanks in advance for your support
