Still looking for my 1st kayak and have been put off buying the Prowler due to its size for my 1st kayak and am now looking at the Wilderness Tarpon 100, anyone own one of these or can recomend one???? the 3m size would be good for sliding into my van and i will be using it for easturies fishing and paddling round the coast on calmish days, I'm 5'7" and 12 stone

I don't know anything about the Tarpon but if you are looking for something a bit more portable than the usual fishing kayaks this one seems to be gaining favour and may be worth a look too.

The Tarpon 100 would be a little bit too small in my opinion.

I have paddled a 120 and that is a tad too small too

The 140 would suit you better

You will end up buying a bigger kayak soon if you bought the 100

It is ideal to chuck in the back though and for short distances

The 100s sell like hot cakes so I pressume they are good

The 100 would be fine for occasional lure fishing but not room left for gear.

The T120 would suit you at 12 stone. The picture below is me and my lad with a combined weight of over 20 stone plus a bit of safety gear and lunch, all on a t120 in a surf.

1 on the lure is worth 2 from the bait.

Yesterday I was watching a guy surfing in a T100 and he was doing well, pity I didn't video when he wiped out though!

Obvious thing to say, but get the yak you want for maximum enjoyment! Moving yaks off water is a pain, I need help.

If you want to have a potch light fishing, paddle short distances and playing about in the surf then the 100 would be ideal.

But anything else you would need a bigger kayak!

The best thing is to have 2 or more :D

I nearlly have 2 but still would like a small one for fishing the estuary and playing in the surf, and a Tarpon 100 is on the list of possibilities :)

Distances I would get

Scupper pro / Tarpon 160 / Dorado / Marlin/Pelican

General all round:

P13 / Tarpon 140 / Prowler Elite

Short distances playing in the surf:

mini x / tarpon 100 / frenzy

Comfort fishing not much paddling

Big game / drifter

2 up:

malibu 2 xl

Money no object:

All of the above ;)

This is just my personal opinion :)

I bought a T100 last year when I started kayaking but soon became aware of it's limitations - I was cod fishing in the north sea off Scarborough - I soon upgraded to a Prowler 15 that had much more storage and performed in the sea much better - however I still have the T100 and feel a certain level of attachment too it as it was my first kayak and we share many captures and it brought me into such a great hobby - like for mentioned I take the T100 out into the gullies and plug and spin etc when I don't need lots of kit which proves ideal - but you have to accept the limitations, so beware that you might end up upgrading sooner rather than later

Ditto, as above

I fancy getting a baby yak just for playing in the surf and light estuary fishing! Or even better for the wife! what a good reason to buy one :idea::idea:
