The restriction is there purely for safety reasons by keeping all the kayakers within a certain area that can be easily viewed by each other and the safety boat - the match is under the banner of the Scarborough Angling Festival that is in it's 97th year - it is the first dedicated kayak match that I know of in the north so it is important that all safety aspects have been covered We have decided to make the match a heaviest fish match - thus so making it an extremely fair match where the winner may catch the deciding fish in the first or last minute - it also gives all a reasonable chance of getting to the prize table, not just local anglers - the species targeted will be cod that are numerous along this coast and are found very close in, distance will have no bearing on this match, in fact as soon as you get out of the land rock the fishing is barren - last year a local shore angler took a 15lb cod from where the match is taking place, so that's the quality of fish at stake, there are many fish in the 6-8lb stamp at that time of year There is a substantial prize table here not just a raffle table - Ocean Kayak are donating a new kayak, there will be good tackle, and plenty of cash prizes starting at at least 100 pounds, possibly the first 15 anglers will get something This match will be fair to all taking part and I think the first prize of a new kayak shows the commitment of Ocean Kayak and all to make it a successful event - I am sure it will also be a very enjoyable day out

I bought a T100 last year when I started kayaking but soon became aware of it's limitations - I was cod fishing in the north sea off Scarborough - I soon upgraded to a Prowler 15 that had much more storage and performed in the sea much better - however I still have the T100 and feel a certain level of attachment too it as it was my first kayak and we share many captures and it brought me into such a great hobby - like for mentioned I take the T100 out into the gullies and plug and spin etc when I don't need lots of kit which proves ideal - but you have to accept the limitations, so beware that you might end up upgrading sooner rather than later

good reply- I think its just a case of reducing or eliminating the risks as far as possible - the more saftey features the better - who knows how anyone will react when it goes t*** up

A tragic loss, i wonder what clothing they had on

had a an afternoon on friday under bempton cliffs (350 foot) with the tarpon 100 - the mist was cloaking the cliffs making an immpressive scene - the sea was like glass, lazy. Fished with crab and mussel only 300 yards or so off and managed 5 codling at the 2 to 3 lb bracket, not massive but at this time of year ok - waiting really for the sea to clear up when the jiggers and shads will come out of retirement cheers space monkey

Hi musket, i'm looking at a fladden maxximus, what rating is yours? I dont know wether to get 12/20 or 20/30, it has to jig 3 and 4 oz jigs - any light shed would be appteciated - cheers monkey

I could do with a bit of expert advice from you lads regarding anchors, I fish on rock and therefore the method of holding is by snagging and snagging only - approx 40-50 foot of water in average tide conditions. I've made an anchor of about 1 pound with 4 "bendable" prongs, which also incorperates a weak trip. However I only used it once as it was a bitch to pull out and in a strong wind creating a rapid drift it was very un-nerving, if I went with thinner wire I doubt it would hold - I therefore devised a "throwaway" method; basically 3 5 inch nails bent to make 3 prongs, this was tied to a short length of 50lb line, with added weight of a piece of any scrap metal this would hold, but it would break after a while - all in all its trying to find a compromise between holding and safety as you can not put as much pressure on the anchor rope in a yak as you would with boat - any ideas would be greatly apprieciated. cheers space monkey
