Defra propose a non targeted fishery for the Porbeagle at December's Eu talks

But of course you KNOW the answers?!

You're full of empty rhetoric, Jaff!

You're right, no one knows all the answers and you know a lot more than your questions suggest.

If you really want to know who opposed the setting up of Nursery Areas for bass, you should speak to all the gill netters and rod and line licenced fishermen in the Solent for starters. Then you could survey all the other commercial bass fishermen in the S. UK.

Try asking the guys who have spent years trying to work out just which zooplankton a larval cod needs - too big; starvation, too little;starvation, too few per litre; starvation, too "spiky ( a well known defence in the zooplankton) and guess what......

And they are?

The 'spiky' argument presented by Colin was 'tongue in cheek' and not worthy of your biological dissection, but since you ask, diatoms such as Bacteriastrum hyalinum are 'spikey' as a defence against bivalve filtering organisms; most organisms have defence mechanisms. Fish like triggers, smoothhounds, wrasse and even bass have developed counter measures (as humans do!) so that even shrimp, crabs, sea urchins, sand dollars, sea stars, sea cucumbers, and bivalve molluscs offer no real defence against them.

You are totally missing the point made in earlier posts that indiscriminate overfishing is a threat to many large pelagics, whilst inshore, the damage is already done.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

The 'spiky' argument presented by Colin was 'tongue in cheek'....

Glad someone realized that. I just thought of the most ludicrous reason I could for an increase in bass numbers, I never for one second thought that any commercial would pick it up and run with it

The job of Apex predators in the ecology is to take out the weak, diseased, and slow, keeping the overall prey stock healthy and in balance with food supply etc.

Nature has it's own mechanisms to ensure that the prey/predator balance itself is kept in check.

(A species that harms it's larder won't be around too long).

We replace natural selective predation with non-selective predation (ie we don't take our the weak sick and slow as a preference, anything with a price tag will do), but we do try to eliminate natural competing predators.

The end result is what we all should know well.

Its news to me that any species has a "job" , or that the competing species have ever been in some kind of "balance" . Or that there is a "larder" to which we are entitled!!

It is what it is Leon ?

Is this "nature" an entity? Something to be worshhipped and obeyed?
