Just been given an Abu 7000 C4 Lever Drag but cannot work out how to get the casting function to work with the main drag settings ie If I set the cast control for say 5/6oz weight accordingly, the main drag is full on at even the lowest setting and unable to pull the line at all. But, if I undo the cast control so as it is right off, the main drag function works fine.

Anyone have any ideas please? The instructions with the reel dont explain that great!

:camera: The Penn Torq is a lever drag that can be used to cast and a couple of the other Penns can also be used for casting, like the 975 LD but I don't think the ABU is designed for casting, although I'm sure there is a compromise drag setting that will allow you to cast it, albeit more a lob than a cast. :clap2:

Is she setting it as per the usual ABU instructions to adjust it so the 'lure' drops slowly from the rod tip? That only applies to freshwater lure fishing with light lures, for sea fishing that's a load of crap. She needs to set things so the drag works as she wants it to, then when she presses the freespool button/thumbar the drag is disengaged and she can cast.

I've never used a C4 leverdrag, but a 6600LD. I never used it for casting and got rid of it because the drag was crap.

Fisherwoman, you have primerily a very nice boat reel. It might have beach written on the box somewere but it would be used on a boat to haul up lunkers from the depths. The drag is used to assist in hauling them up without the fish charging off and breaking the line.

The reel would be classed as rather large to use on a beach in normal conditions, there are guys on here who could recommend more suitable reels. Good luck with your fishing.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Sell it to Chesters they are his Favourite reel I Bellieve,

Lever drag reels as said tend to be used for Trolling lures , some have a twin setting, all good stuff but not a first chioce beach reel See if a tackle shop would do a trade for a Diawa SL20 of something alike A good all round reel for beach & light boat work that wont let you down.

Norrie you can cast a shimano Tld15 quite well :P

I have just read your post through again! How old is the reel? It sounds like it has been stored with the drag crunched right up and the washers have bound together. might need a trip to the menders.

7000 C4 Lever Drag is the nastiest most useless reel I have ever taken afloat. After a couple of trips the lever drag developed problems, including the lever jamming in free spool......... Stripped it down, cleaned it re-lubed and rebuilt it (I do all my own reels) but it was never right. Not met many who actually liked this reel. Strangely I have a 6600LD which has never been a problem.
