Shimano stradic fb

Anyone know anything about this reel? I've been given one in the 1000 size, it's an old model and I can't find out anything about it on the web. It says it's made in Japan on the reel seat so should be good quality. Certainly seems it!

I have a Stradic RD which came from America so I wonder if FB, like RD, is an American designation.

I have a couple of the older shimano reels that where made in Japan, a stradic super x and a GTM super X and I do like 'em. Wether they're any better than the latter ones made in Taiwan I really don't know.

I know there are a lot of people who swear by the older models that where made in Japan. If in good fettle the older ones can bring more money than the new ones !

I have a pair of Stradic 4000s which I bought in 1997 when I finally looked like running out of springs for my Mitchells

 

Stradics were introduced about 1995 as the greatest reel ever, umpteen ball bearings, "dyna balance" and all that.

 

Waited until 1997 and bought them at a two-for-one price as the tackle trade had by then convinced itself that anything from the previous year had to be rubbish.

 

They are damn good for legering, fishing swim feeders and the like, as the tension can be very finely adjusted - no backlash whatsoever.

 

That was when Shimano reels were still made in Japan. I think these Stradics will probably last me out.

Dunno! The one I lost was an FJ and was a US import, I wonder if the FB was a US model too.

 

There are so many versions of the stradic but I can't find anything on the FB...
