A worrying trend, this bit made me chuckle though :-

Now that's one hell of a wireless connection, UK to Lahore !!!

Especially when you consider that I can't even get a bleeding signal from my village to the next town half the time!

Satellite connection? They will reach pretty much anywhere from pretty much anywhere else.

bloody good wireless!!! my wifi connection from my pc to my router is bad (if it connects at all) and its 12ft away <_< 3 solid walls in between are a great filter.

i avoid using my card anywhere but the ATM but i expect these are just connected via a phoneline so open to abuse.i certainly would never use it at a gas station if a certain "type" of person ran or worked in it.

its bad when you cant mention anything more specific anymore because it sets people off

It's even more of a pain when the bank don't contact you !

I had over a thousand pounds taken via my debit card, apparently from cash machines in Australia. I only spooted it when my card was declined in a cash machine.

The bottom line is keep a close watch on your finances and check for weird amounts / places. Mine was probably one of a spate of card details stolen via local petrol stations. Thankfully it was all refunded quickly but if it happened whilst I was abroad that would have been a nightmare.

Our bank calls when any charge is made in a foreign country. Saved us on some bogus charges being made in Brazil on our check/debit card.

Our bank calls when any charge is made in a foreign country. Saved us on some bogus charges being made in Brazil on our check/debit card.

I had a call a couple of weeks ago on my mobile querying a small amount being demanded from my card by a firm in the US. The credit card company was suspicious and checked with me and of course it was bogus. It appears that these swines go for a small amount and if that goes through then go for the big one!

I've noticed the US credit card companies are very securtiy conscious as our customers are often asked to confirm their purchases with their company before the payment will be sanctioned to us.
