I am afraid this is more beardy weirdy, sandel wearing, tree hugging, Guardian nonsense. Must be a slow news day. :D

Peter,

This has been covered by the other quality dailies as well as BBC Breakfast TV yesterday morning; so did you actually read the article or just condemn it with the usual platitudes because it was from the Guardian?

i read it in the guardian (my mirthful comments are not just directed to the guardian) but this really is a silly season story with no real newsworthy interest. i am sorry i posted a comment now.

Organically fed on mealworms - hmmm.

Would someone like to do a calculation on how many mealworms are needed to fatten a carp to 5 lb, and how much meal the mealworms munch, and how many sacks of meal ........

Yep

Makes much more sense to grow them on what occurs naturally in very heavily fertilized (mucked) ponds. If supplemental feeding is required, carp will happily eat grains. I wonder what the feed conversion ratio is for meal -> carp with mealworms in the middle, compared to just feeding cereal to carp?

Feeding them on worms from composting, or directly on food waste might be a more efficient solution.

Watching the Hugh Fernley Whatisname, programme this is exactly what they were doing; I think the mealworms are purely a supplement to the diet.
