Was out yesterday and noticed many abandoned and run down places and thought there must be thousands out there so wondered if anyone wanted to share places near them that was in bad need of a refit or just plan knocking down!! Personally i like looking at old buildings as you can kind of get the feeling of what it must of been like to work or live there......anyway was just a thought and hope to see some from you guys soon.

This is the shoreham cement works as it stands now.....

here's another run down place......

The only petrol station in east preston!!

<snip>

cant to begin to imagine when it closed down.....but looking at the pumps id say in the 60s? maybe.

What an amazing place - I don't think I've ever seen an art deco garage before! I was going to say I can't understand why it's not been listed, but I see it now has been. I also see that someone was looking to buy it last year and turn it into a vintage car museum. I wonder how that's coming along?

great info cheers for that....was a bloke working out the back when i went over there...wasn't sure what he was up to but dont think he was doing anything in the garage.....personally didn't know it was there till my wife told me about it and had to go see what it was like!! she told me there was an old steam engine behind it but they have put a tarpaulin over that and put a six foot fence round it....grrr wanted some pics of that aswell!

Was amazed when i first see it and how art deco it looked!! and to see the whitish walls with no graffiti on it was a bonus also.....put that place around my area and it wouldn't last the day without a tag on it!!

Once again mate cheers for the info as i didn't relies someone wanted to turn it into a car museum!....personally think they should sell me it so i can make it into a nice house....lol.

What's the area like where it is? It's obviously been shut for years - like you say, quite possibly since the 60s/early 70s. I just wonder how on earth it's managed to survive being derelict that long?

(That cement factory's pretty cool too!)

Its in a very quiet part of the town really and near to a very expensive part of east preston with private estates and all that....think if it was other side of the town things would of been different. tell you what though i was only there five mins and two people walked past talking about how its kept well and what potential it has!

my other half lived in east preston many years ago and it was still in the same state as she remembers.....amazing really.

Cheers and glad you like the place.

Those pics take me back a bit. The sight glass on the pump...............always paid to make sure it was full before and after you filled up, otherwise you could end up with short measure. About five bob a gallon then.

Den

"When through the woods and forest glades I wanderAnd hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,And hear the brook, and feel the breeze;and see the waves crash on the shore,Then sings my soul..................
