There is also the old Daiwa amorphous whisker stalking rods which came in a 21/4 lb tc which are also like hens teeth and sought after.

TT I've not seen them but the whole of the Amorphous range were corkers as you will know. You do seem to share my good taste in Fishin gear. :D

Rich,my brother brought the Wychwood 1 3/4lb rods for Wingham and they were well cheap.I will get him to post the details.

Most 1 3/4 rods are now called "barbell" rods as Mark says! sign of the times eh?

These where the barbel rod that I brought

Barbel Rods

Got each of those barbel rod for £40 each from a tackle shop in kidderminster

Growing old is inevitable but growing up is optional

Problem is that there is too many people now in the know and sharing the same taste which is being reflected by increasing prices. Another one if you have not got one is the Shimano Technium specialist quiver. Fantastic light quiver rod which has a surprising amount of backbone. Mainly use it on the river for Roach and Chub. Definately a future collectors item.

I've no doubt it's a good un but I'm a fan of Drennan and Daiwa feeder rods.

Thanks for the replies guys. I may have found a suitable FOX rod. Otherwise I think I'll have to make my own. I really want a mini carp rod witrh larger rings etc as this rod will be used solely for ledgering at distance, this kinda rules out all the "barbel" rods.

I acquired a 12' Nash Hooligun 1.5lbs specimen rod recently, which hasn't really been tested. I ha a tench of just over 5lbs from Sefton park Lake about 3 weeks ago, but the rod was too stiff to really feel the fish.

This is a signature, there are many signatures like it but this one is mine

Just bumping this up to the top AND want to ask:

Assuming you were fishing at range for big tench what is the highest test curve you'd go?

Rich

Hi Richard,

When fishing at long range it's not the test curve that's important it's the action or shape of the blank that's key. A "fast action" tip will cast further and, more importantly, pick up line faster when striking into fish. A "through" action or parabolic shape to the rod when under pressure is a better rod for playing fish close in and is less likely to suffer from "hook pulls".

You also have to consider how you are going to fish at long range. A method ball can weigh 4 or 5 ozs, so trying to cast that over 80 yards will need a pretty hefty rod. Probably something more akin to a beach caster!! For casting an in-line feeder full of maggots that distance, you would porbably get away with a 2 or 2.25 lb TC fast taper.

If you're after tench though, your best bet would be to join the Tenchfishers where you can get access to their forum and benefit from all their expertise. Advice is freely given and it's not cliquey in any way, shape or form. (Yes I am a member).

See you at Wingham!

Regards,

Steve C.

A friend of mine has a pair of North wester Kevlar Tench rods and they'd do the job, I think there 1.25 tc . I know they come up occasionally on ebay, It depends on how much of a hurry you are in. Some of the Harrison Barbel rods would make nice Tench rods in the lighter TC's.
