fishing in the dark

A fishing friend has got a red LED headtorch (cheap from Argos, as it happens - I think Steve Burke did a review on it?) which is brilliant - it gives you plenty of light to rebait and find bit and pieces but doesn't ruin your night vision.

My review is at http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/Tackle-And-Bai...head_torch.html

Red beams are also much better for worm hunting as well. If youve allready got a "white light" headlamp you can easily adapt it by putting a bit of red film over the lens.Even one of those red cellophane sweet wrappers will do the trick.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

I have the head torch that Steve Burke was talking about and agree its brilliant.

The red led setting is great for close work without ruining your night vision,I also have them in the 6 led version and the batterys lasts ages Steve.

Re: colour of headlamp - I prefer green since it has very little effect on night vision (more than red but not much), offers much greater visibility, and is very unobtrusive to fish and to other anglers.

Probably not a major consideration for UK freshwater use but you can read a map or chart /w green while you really cannot with red.
