We have moved over to the Tohatsu's. Apart from a teething problem with one of them they appear agricultural but reliable. They were developed for the commercial Japanese fleet. You would need to use a hell of a lot of petrol to justify going for a four stroke

You cant get 2 strokes for love nor money, at least not down here, and those that are about command a premium as their power to weight ratio is so much better, my 10hp 4 stoke weights the same as a 15hp 2 stroke.

I dont go fishing very often and at least with a 4 stroke what I dont use goes back into the car, I cant do that with 2stoke it just goes stale, unless I get a trabant!

the 4 strokes are quieter and I think better at slow trolling.

There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot!

Hi Dan, That was one of the reasons I got a four stroke....I generally buy 50ltr of fuel for a weekend trip, which means a day and a half on the boat..but, I find the 4 st to be wayyy better on fuel than the 2st...and as you say, LOADS quieter....I can have a normal conversation at 25 knots...:) the number of times I have tried to start it while on the drift, to find out ,its already ticking over !! :) On the 2 st before, I was learning sign language..:):) also, any fuel left, goes straight in the car...and so, new fuel every trip..:):)

Gannet, will look forward to having a pint oir two at the MOG with you, this summer, its another place I am going to visit more often this year..:)

Norm, For all the cost thats involved,, I'm just going to get it done myself,,..I need the boat on the water mate..not the trailer..:) theres fish to be caught..:) and more pics for the paper !! :)

Much more freeboard than my old boat, more beamy and much lighter!

Looking forward to sea trial, unfortunateltly the weather looks pants for tomorrow

And yes I know the trailer is a bit on the short side, but I have that in hand!

G'day mate, a nice little tinny, but suggest that you really upgrade the trailer. Having towed 4 metre tinnies for the past 18 years with distances to 1000 miles a trip, I have seen many and varied problems arising from badly trailered rigs. Small wheels mean that the greatest speed one can safely tow, is 80 kmh (50 mph). A chain securing the bow to the trailer mast is essential and I suggest that you put a 3:1 winch on.

A good guide for trailers is here:
