In front of boiler was gas heater which could be used in power cut now theres nothing but the worst thing is they refused to remove liner so the chimney cannot be used for say a small wood burner

Was it a gas or a coal fire boiler?

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

I would just leave them, probably better than watching telly.

Mmmm'yeh. But then the sticks would lodge and we would incur a very troublesome chimney blockage. We will continue as we are until the family steeplejack arrives to fit cowls. Certainly the present pantomimes are better than most programmes, Its better than watching tennis, but less interesting than watching cricket. Half an hour each day, we are out on the terrace observing the "Jackdaw Shuffle". Jackdaws don't hop and land on both feet simultaneously like smaller birds - rather they jump and land one foot after the other, like the front half of a cantering horse.

Each day the scenario already described is re-enacted. It takes them half-an-hour to realise BOTH chimneys are smoking, but by the next day (unless its a different pair of jackdaws) they have forgotten, or else hope WE have forgotten how to light a fire. :)

There are now about a dozen jackdaws in the area, inspecting chimneys, but drawn mainly to ours, in spite of the smoke (yes Leon, we are doing our bit to accelerate global warming :) ). Have lived in this house for over fifty years, but not until this year has it become a jackdaw magnet, else cowls would have been up years ago.
