Whats the best make. Some will not open/close easily, whilst others seem to damage the line

I'll second that; Anchor is the shot I usually use and it opens and closes a lot easier than some others I have tried.

I've been trying Dinsmore soft shot, and it seems a bit variable and I lose a few when playing fish, and some I have to discard as they don't grip

Anchor is certainly better than any other brands I have tried but they are ALL too expensive !

 

£1.20 for a box of six SSG, That's two bob a shot !

 

Fortunately many other anglers are profligate and leave strings of shot on the bank........

Just answered the other post on here on the same subject..i use both Dinsmore and Anchor but prefer Anchor Double cut,i don't have any problems with either.

Take life as it comes,you get one chance so enjoy it.
