Eye candy for motorcycle enthusiasts

A mate of mine had an Ariel Square Four 1000cc Mk 1. Sounded like a Lancaster bomber with fuel consumption to match

I had a drive or two on it - was not impressed - leaked oil everywhere - even worse than the average Triumph

My ownership of Ariels was limited to Red Hunters - I used to buy cheapie/clapped-out motorcycles and do them up for sale

I've heard that the rear two cylinders of the square four were prone to overheating.

I like quirky engine design. like this Megola with its' five cylinder radial engine. A thing of beauty but I suspect not a joy for ever.

Had a couple of bikes rather than scooters a morini 500 that lost parts every outing and a fizzy the most rememorable one was a ride around on a mates flat tanker ,it went but it didnt want to stop and the gearbox crude ,ok but not my cuppa tea i was used to hand operated gears but that was another thing altogether.

Wish i could afford another zundapp but i think those days are over

The biggest miss i ever had besides 2 three wheelers for a silly price was a cafe racer norton used on the isle of man , chap next to my mums was admiring my morini (new they looked ok) and took me to his garage and revealed it but £125 was far far more than i could afford in the 70's

That I would have given my back teeth to see. A big bloke like you perched astride a fizzy.

I wasnt big then ,now my arse cheeks would touch the road.

Had to find a quick ride to work after a hole appeared in the piston on the bella ,then you only got spares by ear now you can find them hiding everywhere with google

I didn't pay much attention to the engine. It does have a Villiers look to it does it not?

Cory,

Early models indeed had British-built Villiers engines

No shame in that. One of the finest American Motorcyles (IMHO) Buell had Rotax Engines one of the finest motorcycle engines ever made. Rotax are built in Austria.

Is that not an object of beauty? A work of art?
