Slack caused by bridge piers

Recommended Posts

The extra push of water between stanchions often gouges the river bed a bit deeper than the surrounding area, which is worth knowing if it's not down to bare rock.

One of the most consistent fishing spots I ever had was created when a tree blocked  the inside span of the old railway bridge at Dowels, just upstream of Bewdley.

It was a bit deeper than the surrounding area and the tree created a slack. It was really hard to get down to the only spot that it could be fished from but three or four pike (often doubles) hitting lures in one swim before they got spooked was worth the effort.

Perhaps it was its stash you took? If i lived in OZ i would be out looking for gold ,unfortunately my temperature upper limit is 20c so unless you do something about that i refuse to come down th

Chesters1, Probably the number one reason I could not maintain an interest in fluff chucking was gold. As soon as I would see a few flakes the 'ell with the fish rod and out would come the pan.

Yes Ken, I get it but it's on the News time & time again about kids & water!!

Ken, I know you would echo the caution.

Relax. It was just a climb down a wall overgrown with brambles. I couldn't do it now though.

Better to teach them to swim than wrap them in cotton wool though.

Agreed - Better still, teach them the dangers of falling in unexpectedly.

I'm not getting into a weeing contest on this.
