It's a dangerous and slippery slope, though. If we look to the only comparable country that we have that uses the death penalty, we see that since 1973, at least 190 people who had been wrongly convicted and sentenced to death have been exonerated.

That's a bit crap if that's you or your loved one getting killed by the state.

The UK is not immune to the sort of cockups that lead to the US killing innocent men. The Criminal Cases Review Commission found that more than one miscarriage of justice was overturned every week in 2022.

The police released the first two men that they arrested.

Cashman was arrested and charged more than a month after the killing, The arrest came after a tip-off, rather than a direct chain of evidence, and Cashman pleaded not guilty to all five charges when he got to court.

There were nine arrests in total, and AFAIK only two convictions.

That's a pretty low bar for a cut and dried case appropriate for killing the guy found guilty, and I would NEVER underestimate the state's willingness to manipulate the evidence, the timing of a court case, or the announcement of sentencing to distract the public from something that they don't want us paying attention to.

Just to be clear, I absolutely am not defending the guy, and I haven't followed the case in enough detail to know what evidence was used, or evaluate its reliability - although I likely know people who would have been involved in the conviction.

Ken saying I don't have a tv is like a car owner saying he doesn't own a rolls Royce but having a vw golf !your typing on here which means you have a screen and that screen can be used as a tv .A tv is a term as well as a physical thing if your device can reconstruct transmitted audio and visual signals back to audio and video on your device it's a tv

Technically you could hang a 32" monitor on your wall and not connect it to an aerial or the web or satellite dish and cast video to it via your phone but it will still be a tv , the moot point is what you watch on it to get the bbc interested .

What I have is a rather aged 55" Plasma television hanging on the wall and connected to a PC.

In the context of accessing news and popular culture, what matters is that I don't have a TV licence and don't cheat by watching or recording broadcasts.
