Crikey. Sheer bl***y carnage! A great day indeed.

I really am going to have to move up North (or Wales would do). I'm bit fed up with torpid, muddy rivers.

My guess is that river is in Yorshire.

MC, if you can face a journey up to Oxfordshire I can give you a day on a fast, clear stream. No grayling unfortunately, and no monsters, but a great day's trotting. Let me know if you're interested. (Sorry to go off topic.)

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

You appear to be up to your 'nads in water, is this pre-requisite to successful trotting? If so I should be buying long wellies instead of reels.

I have Hunter thigh waders (IMO don't bother with thigh waders you can always just fold the chest waders down if you like) and recently bought some neoprene chest waders. To be honest the neoprene chest waders are far superior in the comfort/practical departments. On the river we fished it's good to get out right in the middle of it in many spots so chest waders are pretty much needed. I got mine off ebay and they were only about forty ripps so if they only last a season I hope to get my moneys worth. I forgot to mention by accident I got waders with the attached boot neoprene lined which I'm glad I did as my feet were warm after standing in pretty cold water most of the day and Steys where freezin.

To be honest Andy I didn't take a lot of notice appart from the one in the pic all the others where caught whilst out in the river so I just unhooked them and slipped them straight back in the water. You'd have thought a bit of milt would have dribbled out whilst unhooking them but I didn't see any. I know it's closed season for them but Unfortunatly there a by product of Grayling fishing, they where all away like rockets so no harm done.

That's a very attractive invite Anderoo and much appreciated. At 2.5 hours traveling each way I'm going to have to find at least one other reason to make the journey (I'll hunt down my address book and see if I've got any old friends up there).

BTW. I don't suppose you know of any good online resources about the waterways/geology of Oxfordshire? I know next to nothing about the county and am a bit intrigued about the number of fishing opportunities it appears to afford you.

Cool, let me know, consider it an open invitation. I'll try to find some resources to PM you. I'm still fairly new to the area myself, but it's true that the fishing is very good. If you can't make it for trotting this winter, come for some Spring fly fishing next year, mayfly time if possible!

Sorry again for hijacking Tigger, I just re-read your post though and I'm even more jealous this morning :)
