Mackerel fishing

Recommended Posts

Hi guys this is my first post.

I felt the need to join this great site just to say what a topic, excellant indeed, i have been looking around as a guest but after reading this topic i just wanted to say well done to the guy that started it (ziggy).

I am just getting back in to sea fishing as i have bought a caravan on the co.down coast and the mackerel are pouring in, and i thought hey i must get the rods out etc etc but all i can find are my two brand new carp rods and reels and thought i better get a beech caster and reel sorted but after reading the posts about playing around with carp rods this has made my mind up not to buy sea rods etc i'll just stick to the carp set up.

cheers guys again and good luck

Welcome aboard Getin2them,

Glad you like the thread. I'm only on here now and again at the moment due to living in a hole at the moment. Like it says on the tin "Enjoy Responsably".

cheers,

zig

This must be a matter of some interest to sea anglers.

It is Newt. In the UK its a fish just about everyone has caught. Many people think they are great conservationists by returning these fish when the actual fact is they are doing no more for conservation than those people they loathe such much for stacking dead fish on the pier then doing nothing with them.

Will the future see peirs lined with anglers wearing wet Neoprene gloves.

Are we fairly sure that the only fish that are effected by this issue are Mackerel?

I wouldn't want to unwittingly harm any fish that I catch

This particular problem yes.

But handling any fish, especially with dry hands, can remove protective slime or damage scales which does increase the risk of later infection.

simply by using barbless hooks on feather, spinning rigs make it easier to shake them off ,you may lose a few but at least it gives you more of a chance to return them relativaly unharmed.

Still doing my bit for conservation by not catching anything on the last 3 to 4 fishing trips. I think the jet stream is affecting more than just the weather, should be loads of mackerell & sprats at this time of year :(

hi i have been fishin for a few years and yeah i have i have herd that mackeral die, i think its inhumain tbh so i have soent many hours wondering what we can do to prevent innocent slaughter and the answer is very very simple, if the acid and the oil on human hands burns the skin of the fish, you can counter the acid and the oil by washing your hands in the same water take a bucket fill it and wash you hands this will over power the acid and can be tested with universal indicators , if you dont belive me try it i have.
