  1. 3lb3oz is not bad its 3lb3oz bigger than my biggest barbel,Ive fished for them 3 times in a river thats notoriously stacked full of them and all I have caught is one chub,it was my biggest chub I have ever caught though,I did manage to hook a barbel it felt like I was fighting with a bag of cement before it snapped my 8lb line so fingers crossed for my next visit with some 12lb line
  2. peter why are your posts wider than any body elses,I have to scroll across to read them or is it just me?
  3. my mates brolly had loads of leaks ,so he treated it with silcone, not the spray but the stuff you get in a tube that you squeeze out with a gun,it looks a right mess and it still leaks.
  4. I have watched HWS(I can't spell it either)ever since is early days and I used to think his methods and recipes were aimed at trying to make people live off the land,be it owning an allotment or picking or killing wild food.however after looking on his website at the prices of his stuff,it somehow makes him seem very false.
  5. I got a big bag of webbox chum mixers from netto for £1.98 the carp and chub love em,its just trying to get them to eat the ones witch are attached to my hook thats the problem though.
  6. I went on holiday to sidari in corfu, there was a chap with a horse and carriage running trips round the town and across the bridge over the river of love,so I went to the bridge over the river of love to see if there were any fish, the water was green and it stunk of sewerage and there were dozens of fish upto about 9inches long gasping for air on the surface.I wouldn't let a dog swim in it,nevermind sailing down it with a picnic basket and a bottle of wine .
  7. I fished on saturday with dog biscuits floating on the top,I didn't put any grease on my line, and i didn't have any problems getting bites, the only problems I had was hooking the fish.I did eventually hook into one but it snapped me after about a minute or so,about twenty minutes later I got a mirror carp of 9lb 14oz,not a monster but it put up a right scrap and it is the second biggest carp I have caught so I was still pretty chuffed .
  8. had an hour a couple of weeks ago got a perch about a lb and a pike of about 6lb,tried for three hours last night, got a couple of missed bites that felt like something small.
  9. Iv'e had a couple of these out of the leeds& liverpool canal in bingley,I did'nt know what they were at first ,they have got very sharp points in the fins.
  10. you can also cut a groove in the biscuit and superglue your hook into it.
  11. I nearly lost a rod last year,it took off strait out of my rod rests,I jumped up and just got hold of it in time before it dissappeared into the murky depths ,imagine my disappiontment when I struck into my (massive carp) and reeled in a tench that weighed roughly 1Lb
  12. barbel,I have been trying to catch a barbel for two years now without any success,I would also like to catch a zander but I don't think there are any round by me.
  13. Have you tried floating some bread crust over them, they usually can't resist it.
  14. I don't hate carp in fact I enjoy fishing for them, they are a strong fish that put up good fight,I dont call myself a carp angler though as I only target them now and again,I haven't got a bivvy and I usually use fairly light tackle. The problem I think may rest with some of the carp anglers (not all of them)who seem to think that the carp is something very special, theres a gravel pit that belongs to one of the clubs I'm in that holds carp and pike,in the predator forum on the club website theres often mention of not lure fishing for pike next to carp anglers because they get annoyed, also there is rule that you cannot fish this water without an unhooking mat but other waters that dont hold carp have no such rule. Its not the carps fault.
  15. Ibought some tutti fruiti boilies and they smell delicious,so I tried one and it tasted awful. the white chocolate ones smell nice too but I've already learned my lesson so I'll stick to cheese and onion sandwiches.
  16. Hello and welcome to AN ,there is already a post running regarding this subject and it seems the location is a closely guarded secret, which is probably just as well because it looks a very enchanting place and if the secret got out there would empty boilie bags, beercans and sweetcorn tins all over the place.
  17. whilst fishing on larkfield tarn in rawdon west yorkshire last year there was a group of kids a couple of pegs away making a right noise, after a couple of hours or so they packed up and left,I could see from where I was sat that they had left all there rubbish behind strewn all over the place, anyway a bit later on another young lad about 14 years of age wandered on to the lake,he stopped at each peg and seemed to survey the water,as he got nearer my peg he approached and asked if I had caught anything, when I said I hadn't he said he was surprised I hadn't had any tench as the lake was full of them,he then told me he fishes the lake quite a lot and he fishes for the carp that are in the lake, after about ten minutes he had told me how deep it was in all the different areas of my peg and the pegs eigther side of me ,we had a general chat about fishing,he then carried on up the lake and picked up every piece of rubbish the other kids had left behind and took it with him when he left.I was fishing there again yesterday and he appeared again looking somewhat older I only just recognised him but it was definately him,he obviously didn't recognise me,he told me where the tench and carp likely to be.what he said next quite amazed me,he said he had caught over a hundred carp on the lake last year and that he weighed, photographed, and made a note of every one of them,he told me his mate caught one a couple of nights before that weighed12lb7and that he had caught it last year and it weighed 12lb3,so not only does he go there to catch fish but he seems genuinly interested in how the fish are progressing,he was interested in the environment around the lake and gave the impression that he new this lake and its carp like the back off his hand.If my son grew up like this lad was,I would be more than pleased.to show so much passion in something he enjoys doing is a credit and I hope his parents are proud of what he does.
  18. The chap I go fishing with forgot about some groundbait he mixed in a bag in the garage, and that quickly became a bag of maggots, his stinkbag has that much dirt and grime in the bottom that there are worms living in it
  19. It works the other way too, last sunday while me and my mate fished a small mill pond a chap turned up loaded with tackle he looked like a proffesional angler, and when he plonked himself down in the next swim me and my mate looked at each other quite worried,we had visions of him catching every fish in the pond ,that is till he took his boots off and put his waders on,it became obvious as we watched him that he didn't have clue what he was doing,he never caught a thing and it was probably just as well,if he had caught something and he was on his own, god only knows what condition the fish would have been in when he put it back
  20. just been to asda, didn't see any fishing tackle though, must have been the thought of how much the price of food has gone up that clouded my vision
  21. Its true that the minority give the rest of us a bad name and its a shame, but it happens and as we all know its not just line and hooks, the sweetcorn tins beer cans and pot noodle tubs all add to the long list of c**p some anglers leave strewn all over the bank and I don't think its something that will ever stop. Its a shame you couldn't make a fishing programme that featured every water in the country as theres never a scrap of litter to be seen on tv shows, they must have a right tidy up before the cameras start rolling.
  22. The canal bank where I sometimes fish is covered with dog muck and it can be difficult finding somewhere to set up because of it.I think there are some dog walkers who don't take there dogs out to exercise them but simply to empty them,as on many occasion I have seen people turn around and walk back the way they came as soon as the dog has done its business just leaving it steaming on the bank.knotsford lagoon in otley west yorkshire is owned by bradford no1 and they have banned people from bringing there dogs, but you still get members of the general public trying to walk in with there dogs, they are usually told they tresspassing by a club bailiff or one of the anglers, consequently there are no piles of s**t.
