  1. couldn`t you use a "carpomatic"? this is a circular trench 2ft wide and 2ft deep cut in a circle 20ft in diametre .the trench is lined with pond liner and filled with water .a long pole is suspended from an upright pole in the exact middle of the island left inside the trench ,to this horizontal pole a "line" is attached which is fitted to your little carp (with 2 poles 2 carp could be "exercised" at one time) using a carp bridle (make sure you get the stretch one at first) . to use the now complete "carpomatic" you attach your carp to the bridle and gently lower it into the machines trench (if using 2 bridles make sure the fish are both facing the same direction) the fish will then be excercised whilst your at work etc ( you can put them back into their tank at night for safety) after a few weeks weights can be added to the arms so as to ensure complete muscle growth , as the fish grow more weights are added untill the arms can take no more .to carry on the carp growth the "carpomatic" expansion kit the "carpoconan" this consists of 6 high pressure water jets that rotate the water in the trench in the opposite direction to the swimming fish this along with the supplied granite "carpoconan2" deluxe bridle will ensure a fit and strong carp even the record holder would be proud of [ 16. 6. i havent seen the "goldfish" yet ,my old employer had a wonderfull pond with koi and orfe and we had trouble with our "local" heron ,plastic herons failed and as the pond had a planting ledge wires were useless (he? could fly over the trip wire and land on the ledge) the best thing we found that worked (we used the owl to no effect) was a plastic black cat with very large eyes this moved every couple of days seemed to deter the bird . remember though that herons are a pest because you keep or fish for fish ,if they were a pest in reality as they have been about for millions of years then if they were a menace and fish gobbler there would be no fish occuring in nature , they come to your pond as its the bird equivelent of our fast food stores ,we use them can we blame herons for using theirs. if we leave a bike unlocked in a street who do we blame when its knicked ,the same applies to a pond , dont shoot ......deter on the bright side there probably only 1 heron if it was corms your pond would be a hole filled with water and nothing else the useless plastic heron we gave to our pet male goose as a "wife" he used to get VERY annoyed if you approached it [ 15. 10. if you keep koi dont keep them in a pond when toads are about several nice koi were "drowned" by randy toads in my old employers pond they (the toads) will grab hold in a sexuall embrace anything that moves in the breeding season (amuse your kids by putting your hand infont of a randy toad in the mating season ,you will have a lovely toad "glove") if toads (and frogs i think) find a female with a "partner" they can get the resident to let go if they have a louder croak as koi rarely croak ( audibly) if their new friend manages to get a grip on the head it can stop the koi using its gills and it (the koi) "croaks" literally if for some reason the females are late or in short supply serious fighting occurs and any unfortunate females turning up are usually drowned in the orgy as for clay lining i worked on the basingstoke canal when it was being restored ,in the sections where the water had remained the 200 year old clay was still fine on the drained section i worked on (a serious burst had drained it) it was re puddled , i thought that clay was clay it isnt the clay used was reddish in colour and VERY heavy and almost imperviose to water making the puddling very hard labour (hence the cattle) garden clay would be almost useless (unless many feet thick) as it clouds the water easily (the surface erodes quickly) the red stuff on the other hand hardly coloured the water even in the puddling process [ 15. 11. i was surprised on revisiting (this was many years ago) a childhood friends parents ,on seeing their goldfish i remarked that they looked the same ones as they had some 15 years before ,i was astonished to learn they WERE the same ones ,fish kept in tanks grow only to the size the tank allows ,a combination of light air water temp and movement determins the size ,if the fish were moved to a larger tank they would grow larger untill they stopped again only in ideal conditions of a lake etc would they grow fully over in the uk even lakes arnt ideal compare foreign carp sizes with ours a lake is just a big fishtank after all ,the food aspect on growth hardly enters the equation you just get fat fish or skinny ones the lenght is hardly affected ,overcrowding is the biggest factor more fish less air ,more stress etc the only fish as far as i know that benefit from overcrowding are lake malawi cichlids they are terribly terratorial and fight anything invading their "patch" the more fish the smaller the patch to fight over the less fighting goes on [ 15. 12. the best hedges are yew ,and not so slow growing as is thought ,if you do have to plant leylandi ( a poor hedging plant) its usually planted because its a fast grower , my old boss bought a load of 5 foot ones as an instant hedge against a new fence , we also planted a row of 2 ft ones else where in five years the small ones had outgrown the big ones and made a far better hedge mainly because of the lesser transplant shock of the small ones ,also cutting them back to 2feet BELOW there intended height gives a better hedge as rather than keep cutting the main stump back every time your only cutting the headers they should be outlawed as as a hedge they are far to invasive above and below ground and as fire wood they are useless except in closed boilers [ 15. 13. quote: No. I'm wrong. At least today's kids haven't had the indecency to invent the atom bomb or the gas chamber or to have a whole world at war.... oh come on dont put them down ,there plenty of time for them to cook up something even more deadly ,after all whats a university education for
  14. just been listening to the americans press conference about iraq (boring) it seems the fact that the inspectors havent found anything proves that they have naughty weapons. using this unusual logic if for some reason i get stopped walking down the street and searched ,by not having what the bill are looking for indicates i`m guilty of having it unless i can prove in some way i havent  .i can easily prove i have something ( by showing it to them) but how do i prove i havent   it could all be double bluff diverting eyes to iraq whilst ganging up for an invasion of another country ,,,yemen watch out [ 15. 15. thanks elton (the whispers were true then) just owning a flash car wont get you in my trousers .
  16. super glue only seems to work on rubber , a belt drive on my ancient dual deck ( old geezer talk ,LPs , 45`s etc vinal etc) broke over ten years ago (ish) and stuck with superglue still works fine , superglue has on anything else failed (except fingers) i use it as a thread lock ,as a glue its worthless. on hard plastic "airfix" cement is superior. hot glue guns are fine but get a big one the cheapy little ones hardly get hot enough to melt let alone give you time to assemble the item and if you bugger it up a match will let you realign the offending ring ,another tip is shrink tube ( the type with glue inside) will fix tip rings in the field.
  17. get out of here billy (bloomin kids) its thora hird for me she`s so "hot" after a frenzed session on her adjustable bed she has to use a stair lift to go downstairs to invite the next boy scout in
