  1. "As for the Admiralty pier, I took a walk along there last year and it was shoulder to shoulder with ilegal imegrants, they did have some good gear as well [[Confused]] even though the did'nt have a clue how to use it." probably because most of it is knicked ,my son had his in his shed (despite warnings from me) and one night it all went ,infact the complete shed was emptied ,a bike ,pram, and other bits and bobs ,he had to walk to the cop shop to report it ,he cant afford a phone ,he lived in folkestone and its crawling with them ,most have mobile phones ,cars and all the niceties ,how someone off the boat without papers (they chuck them away so the government dont know where to deport them to  when their case comes up) gets a driving licence i dont know ,they run folkestone the cops dont care  so long as they are quiet [ 27. 2. had a look when the power came back on ,no sign of it nor my other pikeing stuff  it may still be in my sisters loft (where we left it when homeless) or it may have been "accidentally" sold in the garage and car boot sales we had in the frenzy to empty our old house , the mrs is useless in car boots sells stuff behind my back (i cant resist looking round at the other stalls) and for knockdown prices found my pike rods though they were in the "old" rod bag with my taperflashes and my chapman cane rod ,phew she didnt find those
  3. had a power cut all day here ,the power was on in farnham so it was localised ,no trees down as far as i can see , pet wasps leaving nest disapeared at a great rate i expect there miles away watched kylie on a 5" b&w portable certainly not as stimulating as when on a 32" widescreen
  4. just trying to get batteries for the beast ,now that pp6 are off the shelf i will have to use nimh AA`s so have been browsing for prices ,the difference is staggering trade prices at my two fave sites are actually more expensive than argos for the same capacity cells a few sites with catchy web site names promising to be the cheapest are actually 4 times the price of argos . seeing as i need 12 AA`s to match the 2xpp6 (near enough) price is important best so far is £13 for 8 1800ma compared with argos 4x1700ma for £12 ,the search goes on why doesnt someone make pp6 sized 9v nimh batteries
  5. makw sure its a jpg (smaller) i always forget and use a paintshop pro image and have to do it again
  6. sold the camper to buy furniture etc ,i miss the freedom of it though had a power cut (again ) all day so watching telly on a portable 5" b&w running on my spare mc battery ,kylie not so sexy compared to our 32" widescreen
  7. seeing as "fishy" has a ausie mail account the cost of postage would be more than the cam is worth
  8. too old and fat to be a nighthawk jim ,i expect you need a good burst of speed to outrun irate farmers i have detected at night though ,if you want to go in weekdays in the winter after work theres no option ,one amusing incident was i was on a large field that was going to be resown in the next couple of days (hence the night activity) when detecting the only sence you can use is sight (your listening through headphones )whilst trying to find a elusive metal signal in a hole i saw with the corner of my eye a large white thing hurtling towards me ,the mind went into a fight or flight act thinking it was a vicious attack sheep or a nasty ghost and i lept backwards only to see a large carrier bag fly past ,my heart was still thumping 10 minuits later your not too far away jim ,hants/ surrey would be ok for "everyday" visits ,further away would have to be occasional visits (i have to save for the petrol)
  9. garage , do you play it or work in it
  10. it has svhs and av out so if your graphics card has svhs in or av in you can connect it to the card if not youl have to get a video capture card or graphics card with these connectors thats all i know movie cams are not my thing
  11. a 1949 american mountain sleeping bag ,the bivvy stinks as soon as its unrolled despite being aired every use,but it does say "do not dryclean" on the lable and being feather you cannot "wet" clean it ,very warm but wiffy been to -18 in it without probs
  12. nortons fire wall is entertaining ,if i use windows update ,it comes up with "the page cannot be displayed" ,disable the firewall and it connects ok ,is it a symantec verses gates thang my firewall is set on highest ,its an eye opener to see what wants to put cookies on your machine but a little hard on the click finger
  13. i`l see if another member has a spool they can look at if not i`l have a poke in my roof tomorrow
  14. mines in the loft ,but is the maker mentioned on the lable? cant find any suppliers on a search [ 26. October 2002, 07:57 PM: Message edited by: chesters1 ]
  15. i worked on the basinstoke canal when it was being restored ,the canal on the aldershot end was sealed so it could be drained ,and it was my job to make sure the pumps intakes were kept clear and they were fueled ,over the days as the water dropped the usual shopping trolleys ,push bikes and a fair few stolen motor bikes apeared ,having the excuse to get muddy and paid i took great care to patrol the banks looking for goodies ,in my patrol i noticed a large cylindrical object appear ,at the end of the next day it was obviuos to me it was a bomb so the army bomb disposal was called in ,they cleared the area and defused it and steamed the contents out ,when it was examined it was found to be a british one that had probably "dropped off" a plane ,as the canal drained the bomb disposal was called so much they started work when i did ,literally thousands of rounds and probably a hundred guns were found ,the bullets were disposed of and the guns were lined up and the hymacs trundled over them they now ly in several feet of dried mud on the banks , it apears most of the rifles were dumpt at the end of the wwi , i had a good collection of recovered goodies from the canal ,all went in the skip when we moved
  16. i see the members are now over 3000 ,nice one elton ,happy 3000th might have been premature it says registered members are less than 3000 but the newest member is 3003 ,i suppose that some unregistered or were banned [ 26. October 2002, 08:03 PM: Message edited by: chesters1 ]
  17. eerr a tackle shop
  18. looks like a damp sqib ,repeated clicking produced nothing ,theres a fireworks show on realplayer for the pet lover
  19. did you take the "this is england" equation in mind ,i remember 1963 and 1976 (was it 1976 ,a bit warm)
  20. i had a similar problem with files ,i copied them to another disk because i was having a problem with my machine ,on formatting the disk i copied everything back ,quite a few files were "corrupted" (incomplete zip file reports etc)and others not opening EVENTUALLY i found that a memory chip had gone bad (it was revealed when i disabled "fast boot" in the bios) luckily i had a further backup on another machine ,so lost nothing ,windows never noticed the glitch for some reason ,have you copied the files to anywhere else recently?
  21. often wodered if camo works ,we shop in aldershot and you could spot camo`d squaddies a mile away ,mind you there harder to see know ,is it better camo or less squaddies ,i think the later now the gurka`s have gone ,is there a surplus of matching green jackets , sleeping bags and thermos flasks (its what they all carried) maybe folkestone is now benefitting in increased sales
  22. when we were touring last year i bought a rod reel bundle for a very good price from a southcoast tackle shop (lots of people will disagree with it) but i served me all the year and is still working now (my brother uses it) just a cheap 12ft 4-6oz rod and a fixed spool for under £50 ,it will at least get you going whilst you upgrade to a more respectable set ,second hand is fine if you know what your getting so take a seasond angler with you if you go down this path ,best of luck
  23. just had a happy day after months (18)of playing with my broken metal detector i have finally repaired it (digital electronics not my forte ) but in the interval between breaking it and now, the land owner who`s land i used to detect on has died (old next door neighbour )and my son has upset the other one  by getting drunk with his son and borrowing the family car (my son was the passenger) and parking it "through" the back of the garage (luckily a wooden one) so best to let them cool down for a while are there any land owners in the hants/ surrey area that would let me play in their fields ( must be landowners not tenants for legal reasons) the usual 50/50 pact applies and i dont leave gates open nor holes big enough to notice . i am not the chesters you see here but a realy nice chap and i even wash
  24. Something you probably don't know Newt - it is illegal to have an electric wall socket in the bathroom in the UK (unless it's a special one for razors). My wife couldn't understand it when she moved over here, until I pointed out that 240 volts in the bathroom with all that water probably wasn't a good idea. so to use an electric fire that you balance on the side of the bath an extension lead is reconmended
  25. ah but ice displaces more water than water if it didnt it would sink, compare the displacement before and after its melted i said boudica ,but henry was "ok" he provided most of the building stone from waverly abbey in the area also note how many "coastal" forts etc are now miles inland ,the city that cleopatra was taken to (once a coastal city) is now miles from the sea , england is tilting anyway (look at reculver) and the vanished medievel villages on the east coast you might get wet feet on the east coast but it would be be "back to normal" on the west maybe weve had an unaturally cool spell and now are heading for the "norm" [ 25.
