  1. Yesterday was my return to fishing, from an absent spell. The last time I had been fishing was in last June. The last time I had been had been a culmination in a months solid poor fishing, falling in the lake twice, my pole being ran over by someone with a kit barrow and finally, ending up in hospital over night with suspected hypothermia. At the time, I decided to take a while out from my beloved sport, to see if a little time away from the bank would produce positive results on a return after a month or so. Well....one month passed...no fishing....two months....three months....christmas....still no fishing..... Then last friday, upon being ordered to clean out the garage, I spotted a dust covered shape in the corner of the garage...I went over and gave it a wipe, only to reveal my old Preston Innovations On-Box X2.... So i dusted it all down, tidied up the garage, then came back in and saw my old boot scraper by the door that was a iron trout. Then it clicked!! All that evening I was thinking about returning to the sport and to once again grace the banks of the local waters, then sunday came...and i decided to do it...go fishing once again (was helped by my mum saying to me seconds after waking up "you said you were going to clean the car out?..") So I got out all my gear packed up my car (was exited, this was the first time I had driven myself fishing!!) and headed off to the local lake. Within 15 minutes I remembered exactly why I had started fishing in the first place! And was appalled with myself that I had left the sport behind! But to finish this story and preaching.....you will be pleased to know it was a shocking session! Poor weather and I only caught a little perch, but still I will be going back next week!
  2. I am also a student (17 years old) Im at college and love the fishing. If anyone has any spare old stuff that would otherwise gather dust in the shed, I would happily take it off your hands, and can even pay for the postage Thanks
  3. I have heard before to boil the kettle, then take the lid off the kettle, lots of steam will come out. Then you hold then two sides and pull, whilst tapping on the joint. The steam makes the carbon expand more than the glass, so the glass part should slip out
  4. GOOD! Start cracking down on these people! They all need what i call.....GUNISHMENT!
  5. I was in your situation of needing a good cheap pole. I did quite a bit of shopping about at the time and ended up with a Preston Innovations Axium 11m. It cost about £150 I think and is very good, i still have it today about 2 years later, it still looks perfect! Im not sure as to wether they still sell them, but im sure you could get a good second hand one from somewer like e-bay
  6. Apology accepted Anyway, do you want me to write this book? hahaha Joke!
  7. To be honest, you are being a pedantic sod! This is an internet forum, I wrote that in about a minute, not checking it for errors or mistakes, obviously if I was goin to write a book (which im not) I would check it several times!
  8. My record is going for 6 sucessive days during the summer last year! I went on the Monday and had a teriffic days fishing, so I went back the next day, and the next, and the next, so on... lol
  9. I would like to think that I have the writing skills, but I dont think my angling knowledge is quite good enough to write a book! Plus, I may be able to cope with the Course Fishing part but my knowledge of Fly Fishing consists of about nothing, and Sea Fishing is just totally unknown to me.
  10. "who may not otherwise have attained any formal qualifications" This does my head in! This will basically mean that those kids who p*ss about at school will get to go out and do fishing for a day while people like me are stuck in a class-room. It was like that for me at school, the kids who 'weren't as intellegent' (cant be arsed and would rather go out for a fag!) got to go and do bricklaying and painting. I would much rather do this than a subject like French, but did I get a choice? I think this just highlights many floors in our society today.
  11. Does any body know the date for it? I have heard its been moved to Browning Cudmore, that should be good. Also, how do and where do you get tickets for it?
  12. I always use powerline! Probably becuase im a mad Prestons fan! But it has always been good for me.
  13. This may seem a bit in appropriate, but i have made my own fishing forum, with a main focus on commercial/pole/match sort of fishing. Here is a link to the webiste so please pop in and start some threads! lol www.AnglingForum.tk If you (admins) dont agree with this thread, then please feel free to delete it, it would be understood seems as im advertising on your site!! Also, i am looking at doing some FREE advertising, so feel free to message me on here to sort that out
  14. Sorry Budgie, this wasnt a reply to your exact post, it was a reply to all those pedantic soles that were having sleepless nights over the fact someone has put lights on a fishery so you cant get 3 hours extra fishing! lol
  15. I think you must read my post again, im not saying that its right or wrong, im just saying that if you dont want to do it then dont! Theres no point crying over spilt milk as they say, someone has made this place becuase there is an obvious market for it, if you dont agree with it, who cares? just by some people slagging the place off on a forum doesnt mean its going to be banned!
  16. Some of you folks seem to have some mixed up ideology! Im sure it has probably been said, but if you dont want to fish one of these floodlight places, then dont!! There's no-one with a gun to your head (well at least i think not) telling you to go and fish this place, so if you dont agree you can do down to your local river or whatever and fish in the day. This is for people on a tight schedual (probably poor spelling) who cant go fishing in the day on a weekly basis, so they can pop down for a few hours after work, where is the problem with that? If this is something that really worries you in life, you need to get out more!
  17. haha! I would love to turn up Borat style with a donkey carrying all my kit! Now that would be funny!
  18. haha! just picked up the copy of IYCF from the newsagents, just realised this flood light place they have done the article on is about 20mins from my house! A few night trips there are on the agenda!
  19. If anyone has any old pole or match tackle, I will be willing to take it off your hands
  20. When will discovery make some new stuff!! Also, sack John Wilson!! That guy does my nut. They should make some form of match/commercial/pole program, that would fill the gap in thier program list.
  21. What is the best bit of kit you have bought and why? Mine has to be my Preston Innovations X3 ("ohhh, he isnt on about that X3 again!!") Its the greatest use of money in my life
  22. argh what a idiot, i just realised this post is from ages ago!! The dates on here are wrong, it says my latest post in this thread was the 12th August 2007, incase you didnt realise, its 2008......
  23. I have not looked at poles for a while as the one i have at the moment is about 3 years old!! When I was last looking, the ones i looked at were the Preston Innovations Axium 11m(which i bought), but im not sure that they are still about. Also, the 'Assassin 2' was a gudd'un but i cant remember who made it. There was also the middy 'the works' pole which is a very nice pole. Finally the Ron Thompson rock'ard looked quite nice for bringing in the larger carp. Most of those are probably in a fishing museum now but they were the main ones knocking about when I last was on the prowl, thanks.
  24. Personally, I would go with an Okuma reel. They have different reels that are for all situations and are a perfect compromise between cost and quality. I have one of the Okuma Interceptor reels and it is easily as good as a shimano p.s. I am not affiliated with Okuma in any way!! Just a happy customer
