  1. There's about a half inch of snow here today, enough to keep me indoors and away from all the idiots on the road who don't have a clue of how to drive on snow. I'll take another look this afternoon and may venture out then.
  2. The gun culture is a relic of the days of "The Wild West" : an injun behind every bush, outlaws, cattle rustlers, gold prospectors, general lawlessness everywhere except for the law of "The Six Gun". That is gone, just the guns remain, it won't happen overnight but eventually the majority will grow up and realise that it's over and that guns are not a necessary part of everyday life. It has started. You only have to look at something like Nature Conservation to see how values can change, the kids learning about that now are second generation, their parents were among the first to be introduced en-masse to the knowledge that something needed to be done, those kids will be in charge in the not too distant future and the process will accelerate, (I find that very heartening). Gun culture is no different, it must happen, it will happen. You and I won't see it, but it's coming, someone eventually will have the balls and the nous to make it happen.
  3. The solution to too many guns is not more guns. It does at least look like a few more US citizens are beginning to smell the coffee, it's only a matter of time, (and doubtless a few hundred more wasted lives).
  4. I doubt it: Phone, utter Philistine that he is, would prefer that you put him at the helm of a trawler.

They're at the top on my PC, (see pic below) I don't use my phone for forums. The *attach file* used to work with pics direct from your device but hasn't worked for years now, no-one in admin seems to care, (it's been mentioned often enough).

I upload them to here:- http://tinypic.com/?t=postupload Copy the bottom link of the four options once it's uploaded. Click on the image option in the full reply box, paste the link into the field that the image option brings up, and it will appear in your post. This one needs glazing and then firing again, I hope to get around to it in the not too distant future.

No, it's just a Crow: (and not that good), and you're looking in the wrong place, you need to look at the whole pic.

I particularly like the eagle with the contrails. Did I ever show you this one before? (I can't remember). It's 100% genuine and unaltered apart from resizing for the net.

    Charities

First line of post 13. I've got no problem with voluntary charities for Donkeys or Vagabond's steam engines or whatever else anyone wants to waste their time and money on, but I don't think the important stuff should be left to chance.

    Charities

Are they not are already paying for those from the public purse? That's not charity - it's an existing government commitment. The cost of an aircraft carrier now and again (over £6 billion the latest two - and probably more by the time of delivery) would go a long way to cover the funds required for that which charities currently provide.

I'm not entirely sure about the very notion of voluntary donations to charity for the absolute essentials, The government sets itself up as the arbiter of all that is right and proper for its people and I believe that they should be responsible for what is required. One aircraft carrier every now and then should cover it.
  12. That's where I lived, a side road off Crouch Hill, but the North end, which was Hornsey, (now Haringey), Islington was over the top of Crouch Hill going in towards London.
  13. All I can add to that is the link that Phone forgot to post:- http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5362071/War-passive-aggressive-parking-notes-north-London.html ..........and to tell you that that, (Crouch End) is where I was born, understandably it only became so fashionable after I'd left. The street I was born on and grew up on had exactly 100 houses: when I was nipper, just two of the households in that street owned a car. A Humber Super Snipe Reg. No. JAN 92 owned by the boss-man of an electrical company, and a 1936 Lanchester owned by a young(ish) spinster, sorry can't remember the number of that one, (it was further away and I didn't see it every day like the Humber).

  15. I have the solution Barry. The garden will appreciate the emissions, you can't get a parking ticket, and you'll be going at your usual speed.
  16. Already got two thanks. You retiring Barry?
  17. I thought I'd already seen that on here, but couldn't find it yesterday when I looked. A genuine innovator, sadly too few of those around.
  18. Was working on a place out in the sticks a while back and a car went past with one of those huge rolls of hay on top, driver had one hand out of the window holding it on, no ropes, bungees, string or anything else, just one hand out the window.

  20. Just ask yourself this Phone:- Would you want Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Guatemala, Nicaragua and some twenty other countries to determine how you live? If your answer is no, then that's why I think Brexit is good and the EU is bad, i have no interest in the financial side of things, if my freedom costs me a bit more I can live with that. If your answer is yes, I can't help you. Edit: Just my peasants opinion of course, (I always ask my peasants first).

  22. My B-i-l lives in Ipswich and he's said in the past they've had a lot of problems with fish being removed. Not just Pike pretty much anything with fins. It's not very far from there to Dedham/Flatford.
  23. We are at least giving them a lesson in the one day stuff - just a shame they can't play real cricket properly any more.
