  1. After making the wife ANOTHER cup of tea,I decided to see what goodies were in the biscuit barrell,as you do! There was an un-opened pack of M&S "Breakout" biscuits. "Happy Days" was my mutterings as I opened the packet, removed the wrapper ,then another ,then another ,then another .Can you believe this,I actually removed 5 items of wrapping material before i could actually see,and eat a single buiscuit    !!!!!!!Imagine having 3 or 4 of them? Why can't manufacturers wise up to waste? [ 08. March 2003, 11:36 PM: Message edited by: ThePiker ]
  2. You don't need a passport, and yes, some of the property can be expensive. It really depends where you want to live, and the size of property you want to live in.Rural areas tend to be a lot less expensive, most people build their own out in the sticks. But be warned, rural means rural, no Tesco's or Sainsbury's just down the road! If you are thinking of moving over here for the angling side of things,I'd be carefull.People are saying that if Ireland continues the way it is going at the minute with regards to coarse fish stocks, then the future ain't too bright.I would tend to agree with them
  3. I've just got my first batch of frozen boilies, after using readymades for a few seasons.Immediately I could tell the difference, they really do smell different (fresh),have a softer texture, and generally seem to be a better all round bait.Whether or not they will be better fish catchers(Tench) remains to be seen, but i do have the utmost faith in Richworth. The only disadvantage I can see the frozen's having ,is trying to keep them frozen over a week-end sssion, whereas you don't have that problem wth readymades.!
  4. Dibbly, now I would'nt be an expert at this type of fishing, but i would be thinking along the lines of the sprayed maggot approach. If you think about it,sprayed maggots will have the same effect of the guy throwing in his malted oats at feeding time. The carp will be in a feeding frenzy by this time, and fishing up in the water would see you getting results.Thats were I would start, and take it from there. Also can you get your hands on some of these oats as a groundbait? But,I could be completely wrong about this...
  5. Top advice from Dunk, one thing I would add to the hemp is Brown Sugar,Mmmmmmm, can smell it now.Luverly. ...yes i do actually like the smell.
  6. End of what season? ..Our rivers are just about to come into their own,the Pike are just about to go into spawn, followed by the Perch, then Bream/Roach,and the big big hybrids..That's the beauty of living here in Ireland!!!No Close Season..And I'll be there fishing for 'em. P.S. nice photo, and lovely Chub! Wish we had 'em over here!!!!! [ 05. March 2003, 05:49 PM: Message edited by: ThePiker ]
  7. Terry Hearn did a talk/slide show at the last Irish Angling Exhibition( end of Feb)and to be honest I wasn't one of his most ardent fans.I used to think he was a crackpot/head the ball, but after sitting down and listening/watching him, have nothing but respect for him as an angler. What came across was his commitment and determination to catch fish.A thoroughly entertaning half hour,in fact the best thing at the show. That includes the talk by Des Taylor on PIKE!!!!!
  8. Last Autumn,I looked at this jacket/bib "n" brace, also the Sundridge one, due to needing to replace my old Whychwood Ultimate one piece suit. ('THE' best ever piece of angling clothing made) Leeda have ruined the Whychwwod stuff since they have taken over!!!!!!!!!  I him'd and haa'd that long i'm still wearing the one piece suit .Any-one else got the Fishrite one,and what do you think of it?..... Bring on the Liverpool! 10. Be carefull!!!! If you are fishing any of the Loughs within the duristiction of the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board, YOU NOW REQUIRE A LICENCE.It is gonna cost you 30 Euro ( about 20 quid)to fish gill netted, polluted loughs. Irish Coarse anglers are up in arms over this,as it seems that revenue from these licences will finance activities that the Fisheries board get involved in,and that includes GILL NETTING... Many Irish anglers are boycotting the area with justification I may add. What a pack of tossers the Boards are!!!!   Apart from that, Cartman is right, get it from Irish Angling Services,a lot less hassle than bringing your own and and not too expensive...Des [ 01. 11. Thanks for the reply Woodz.I liked the Milk "n" Ice cream too.Good to hear that there were a few Tench caught on them so will be fishing them with confidence .On your suggestion of braid, did you not find that the Drennan Micro Braid,a poor successor to the old Drennan Carp Silk.I did,I thought it was very stiff and a lot less supple,so i bought all the Carp Silk I could find at the time, 12 spools !!!!!!.Am still using it for hooklengths.
  12. Hi all, can any-one give me some info on the Frank Warrick pop-up's, recently brought out by Dynamite baits.Primarily aimed at "winter" fishing for Carp,I'm planning on giving them a bash at one our more popular Tench venues to see if it winkles out the elusive 7lbers.Any views from you Carp Bhoys most welcome... Are there standard bottom baits available in these flavours,( 12 mm )? Alternatively, they will be used as single hookbaits cast at showing fish (Carp) when I'm over in Oxford in June....Des Milk and Ice-Cream was the flavour I chose. [ 27. 13. You guys are lucky!.I'm just back from Ireland's showcase angling exhibition and it was utter crap. 220 mile round trip,10 euro entrance fee ,for the pleasure of buying some tackle, which to be honest was Crap with a capital C.Ended up buying 2 lures, and a jar of pop up boilies.Grrrrrr!!!!
  14. Sorry Chris....guy got in before you...
