  1. And in north Essex to, But i dont think it will last hopefully.
  2. You must of looked like huckleberry finn Newt. lol
  3. From my experience with my kids, The most important thing is to make sure you take them somewhere they will catch easily. Certainly it isnt the time of year to do this, I would wait until the spring is here and have a recon on a few waters. And find somewhere that winkleing a few tiddlers out isnt going to be hard. Theres nothing more worst than after half an hour than " im bored daddy".
  4. A simple running lead would be your only other option for ledgering. Or you could always float fish.
  5. I to have used the super specialists for years and they havent let me down. and they are a resonable price.
  6. Im exactly the same Elton, When my kids were younger i would always make them eat the meat on their plates if nothing else. As for the clips theirs a lot of footage on there that people would find disturbing. But they have obviously search for the worst they could find for maximun impact n the watcher. I use to work in the meat trade and the larger abattoirs can be a very busy and hectic place at times but all the ones i have worked in the animals were treated with respect and stress levels to a minimum. Which is important for the quality of the meat. A stressed beast= tough chewy meat. Thats why when you but meat from a proper butcher that uses local small suppliers, Not that there is many now the quality of the meat is uasully to a higher standard. Unlike some of that rubbish you can get in the big supermarkets.
  7. Currnet Pike, perch, chub. In the winter Summertime its barbel and tench mainly In the past I did use to do a lot of carping back in the late seventies and eighties but i really cant be arsed with it all now. No interest Theres nothing i wouldnt have a go for given the chance. Im happy as long as im by the water.
  8. Down in the south east my neck of the woods the winters have been so mild for as long as i can remember, I have had some good piking and experienced the pike spawning very eary in the year, I remember a couple of years ago watching pike milling in the margins in mid January. Certainly climate changes and the weather has taken its toll on all of nature lately im sure you will agree. This year has been an acception we have experienced some cold snaps that have been a shock not only to the anglers but to the fish too. I doubt that there is a pike alive that has had to adjust to these conditions, I can see a later spawning this year as long as this cold snap goes on. As far as feeding goes its the fishes priority to survive, have had a few fish the last few weeks and a couple of good hen fish that were carrying roe but where taken in about ten to twelve feet of water leeched up and showing no signs of wanting to go to the look for spawning grounds.
  9. Ive seen stoats doing that before. When i was young i use to be a underkeeper on an estate. They uasully do it to intise prey like rabbits. The rabbits being a bit stupid become facinated that they go in for a closer look then the stoat nabs them. Weasels do it aswell they call it the death dance.
  10. Ive been have trouble with my avg lately. The update manager is constanty disabled even though i keep updating manually and resetting the automatic updates and saving changes. Does anyone else use avg and have you had the same trouble. Any help would be good. Thanks Wayne
  11. I really cant seee what all the fuss is about. At the end of the day they are just a rag doll of a black person. I think the problem is in the name. We have rag dolls of whites dont we.?
  12. Not sure it looks similar to a willow pruner. Wheres jack hargreaves when you need him?
  13. Along time ago back in the early eighties i use to fish this lake in essex, And there was one particular swim that was called the dream swim. Now it was said that all the anglers that fished it would experience the same dream. Now this dream was said to be so scarey that anyone who had it would never fish that swim again. Now me being a sceptical kind of guy didnt take much notice of this, I thought it was just one of the regulars little games to stop people fishing that part of the lake. I had asked around with some of the regulars to find out more about this dream they had all had but they were all a bit vague, Which aroused my suspitions even more. Well i arrived at the lake one friday morning for a weekend session and the swim was free. The lake was almost empty, I had got there before the weekend rush. I took my time setting up and slowly watched the other weekend anglers arrive, As they past some spoke and some just chuckled to themselves. By about nine oclock it was getting dark and i settled down on my bed chair for the night. I have never been one for sleeping on my rods i always try to stay awake most of the night and rest during the day, But this particular night i dicided to sleep, So i plugged the sounder box in and put it on the side of the bedchair and drifted off. I had a nice mirror about midnight and recast and settled down again, The next thing i remember was waking up to the sound of the dawn chorus, I had had no dream or experienced anything scary at all. I spent the day stalking a few carp off the top. I had one guy come round and ask me if i had had THE DREAM i told him no and i thought it was a load of rubbish. He laughed and said you will mate. The second night came and went without nothing happening. I did have a dream the second night but it was the same dream i always have when night fishing, And thats standing in the margins in the morning mist playing a huge fish that i never seem to land. The third night past the same as the others, The most horrifying thing was my milk going off so i couldnt have a brew. It was all a bit of an anticlimax for me, And probably you reading it and i apologise if it has been. There is another lake that i fish even to this day. Which is said to have a ghost of an angler, You dont see him but you hear him casting. And i have heard it myself a quite clear swish of a rod and a splash in the water. and there was nobody else on the lake.
  14. No its not over the top. I have wore my fox ks quite a few times when fishing on a flooded river. Nice and light your dont even know your wearing it. Better safe than sorry.
  15. Nothing wrong with monkeys Chesters, I still got mine and i still use them. They look so fine with the 55s and the cork handles. Proper carping days lol
  16. I have had a few chub on them in the past. I see no reason why they wouldnt work with other species. Only trouble is they are quite soft and could be a problem if you are fishing anywhere that crays might be present
  17. In the early part of the season i tend to stick with smelts and sardines, I have always found them sucessful baits but as the winter sets in i have found on most waters they become less effective. When lamprey first came on the scene a few years ago now they were absoulute killer baits. But i have found from my exerience even they are not as productive as they once were. I think if i had to stick to one bait for all my piking it would have to be mackerel it can be a slow bait at times but i believe it does produce a better stamp of fish.
  18. Nice fish Den. Nice to put a face to the name
  19. Three pound a year growth for a pike is quite possible, And very likely could be that fish. I dont know the Ribble myself, But if it is a good rich river with plenty of fodder fish a pike could certainly manage that growth rate.
  20. I just wear good old fasion wooly fingerless mittens, Never really had a problem keeping my hands warm
  21. Fishing games for ps3, Must be the devils work lol You would never go fishing again.
  22. I myself would keep it nice and simple, A two or three bb peacock quil would be my choice or a small dart type float Attached with rubbers for quick depth adjustment.
  23. Best find someone with a bit of knowledge to go in the shop with you and point you in the right direction. So you dont get exploited by the tackle shop.
  24. I tend to try and balance the hook size to the bait i am using, But its very rare i use any less than a six unless i am zandering. Like Andy said theres no point in mucking about with small hooks once you have a hold of the fish you want to get it in with as little fuss as possible not worrying about your hook hold. Eg you dont want to have a mid twenty under the rod tip with a dinky little size 8 z3 to rely on. Best hookem and hold them.
