  1. Any idea how they died?
  2. I must admit, I like early starts. One thing i like about a foggy morning is just how peaceful it is, the fog drowns out whatever bit of noise there is at that time and its soooo quiet. Ahhhhh
  3. If i use a braid mainline, do i need to use a braid hook length? Is it advisable to use a mono hook length to act as a bit of a shock absorber? Do i need any sort of shock absorber at all? Does braid make for good hook lengths? if so, would it be used with a mono main line at all? Thanks.
  4. They are all good, but if i had to pick a fave it would have to be tench im think.
  5. Budgie, my main concerns are as follows... As above, knots etc. Tackle? does braid damage rods & reels? Is it recommended for carp? Is it worth the extra money? Does it last? Thanks.
  6. Do you have any links that diagram the knot? Ta.

    Hair-rig?

Thats how i tie them. Its a superb knot (or not as the case may be)....i even use this knot to tie non hair eyed hooks. it hasnt let me down once.
  8. Well, its probably coincidence but i seem to catch more using a running rig rather than a paternoster. With that in mind, ive just bought some new nisa feeders from the NEC show(6 for a fiver) which are inline open end feeders. they are intended as semi fixed bolt rigs but i'll rig em slightly different and use em as running rigs. You can see the feeders here http://www.nisafeeders.co.uk They really are quality built. P.S. i dont work for Nisa.
  9. Im sure this has been done to death but.....which is better? Ive always fished with mono but am wondering if id gain a bit of an edge by switching to braid for my feeder fishing? To give you some idea of context.... I fish with a club, and most of our matches are carp waters, some big carp waters. I generally fish with 6lb main line or 8lb mainline on these larger waters. If braid is better, does anyone know any good links/articles about braid fishing that tells me any diffeence in rigs or knots etc. Thanks for the advice.
  10. i have since phoned used tackle limited who normally retail the tubes at a fiver....i told him id seen em at the show and he let me order some at the show price which was 4 quid. give them a bell. There number is in most angling mags.
  11. Ive had a look and i agree that its a rip-off. think ill give it a miss.
  12. At the show on sunday, there was a stand where you could sign up to Bob Nudds magazine......Does anyone know if there is a website where i could sign up? Ta.
  13. I qwent on Sunday and had a really good day got my 2 John Wilson books signed and my Bobb Nudd book. I was actually wanting to buy some of those large blue see through rod tubes that everyone was walking round with, by the time i found out where they were getting them they had sold out. Anyone know any internet sites where i can get them? i need them to be about 7 foot or so.
  14. Im going, im even taking the missus who hates fishing I was planning on taking my john wilson and bob nudd books to get them signed....reckon its possible?
  15. I too could do with a daiwa closed face repair. On mine, three plastic lugs inside have sheared off (when i dropped it) Any help greatly appreciated.
  16. Peter, im not a method expert but have used it a couple of times. generally the hooklength will be fairly short (6-8 inches) so that it sits near your ball of feed. Ive seen it attached to teh bottom and the top of method feeders and its personal preference as to wether you leave your hookbait free or if you bury it in the ball of feed. the red rubber band is a peice of elastic that acts as a shock absorber when the fish takes your bait. The idea with the method is that it acts like a bolt rig and the fish hook themselves. With that in mind, i think you can use any style you like, quiver, bait runner etc should all be fine. Hair rigging is the norm with method feeding, it depends on the bait i suppose, obviously its tricky to hair rig maggot. having said all this, i rarely use the method as i find a standard open end feeder on a running rig equally successful, but as i said im no expert (and i will be giving the method a good go this summer). Hope that helps. D.
  17. no expert, but id say a skimmer or a silver bream.
  18. theres a good bargain to be had on ebay at the minute, 10 packets of preston hooks for £9 including delivery. i always use the Preston Select range, quality.
  19. I had a little outing to the river Don at the weekend (Sheffield) and did a bit of walking up and down, dropping a line here and there. After a slow start i started catching, first on the line was a little brown trout about 3 inches long, then i had a little grayling also about 3 inches long. A while later i had a decent grayling and 2 nice chub about 2.5/3 lbs each. how good is it to see the little trout and grayling?! this has to be a good sign for the river. The future of tomorrows fishing. Excellent.
  20. Pangolin, I think you do thread your line through the whole lot and the idea is that it lays on the bottom and keps your line out of the way of the feeding fish.
  21. Well im no expert but i do like fishing floaters. Heres how i use bread. the first way, is when im using a big peice! I take a slice of bread (square) and roughly tear it in half (can leave it whole if teh carp are big), tear of the crusts(if you wish), then lay the line on the flat bread at one end (leaving about an inch of line sticking out with your hook on). Then roll the bread round the line to make a sausage, lightly squeeze the edge so that it semi-sticks in a sausage shape, then i use 2 half hitchs(i think thats the correct term) at either end of the sausage, then lob it out. it looks massive, but beleive me, those carp have no problem wolfing it down. The other, slightly less gross method is to get a slice of bread, cut a square peice out with scissors (about 1.5 inch square), on one side, leave the crust(i prefer the white bit), then thread the hook through the bread twice and hook into the crust, this stops it flying off. There ya go.
  22. Im trying to get an idea of shotting patterns etc for pole rigs (and the floats are usually marked in grams)
  23. this year im going for some serious experimentation with flavourings and additives in pellets.
  24. Hi all, Does anyone have a link or even better the info. Im wanting to know the weights in grams etc for the different sizes of shot 4,6,8,9,AA,BB,SSG etc etc etc Thanks for any help. D.
