  1. Well IMHO and that of sheds full of of other anglers, for lure fishing PowerPro has to be the best for lure fishing. The only downside I have found id the abrasion resistance is pretty low, as it is with all the other braids I have tried. Regarding price a 500 yard spool from the states cost me less than twice the price of a 150 yard spool here (100 lb BS). I have also started using it in Zimbabwe when dead/live baiting for tiger fish. Due to the inherent non-stretc properties my hook up rate has more than doubled compared to all the mono's available. Try it, "It's a way of life" twitch P.S. As an after thought can anyone name the song and artist that had "It's a way of life" in a song? Four free night lights to the first person to email me with the correct answer.
  2. This August I will be staying near Hickling for a week with friends from Zimbabwe. One of our party is a young girl who is also a keen angler. What I want to do is take her for a day fishing off the shore. We may be able to borrow some beach casting tackle (failing that we will have to rely on our pike gear). Can you please tell me the best place to fish and what method/bait will produce a few flattties etc. Thanks in advance Carl
  3. Some of their stuff isn't too bad (for the money) but I wouldn't buy a life jacket off them.
  4. If you are looking for rivers then try http://www.warrington-anglers.org.uk they have a few stretches in your area.
  5. I think it starts it Brindle, runs South to Whittle-le-Woods then North through Cuerden Valley until it reaches Bamber Bridge where it turns West for a while before heading South to Leyland. I have often noticed it whilst sitting at the trafic lights heading out of Bamber Bridge towards the M6.
  6. Anyone know if there are many pike in there?
  7. A Cyprio Magnet cured my blanket weed on a pond 12foot x 7 foot by 5 deep. You have to turn it round ever few years or so when it stops working.
  8. LAst time I was there the koi were better value at he garden centre down the road (can't remember the name of it just head to the M6 - may be called Bridgemere)
  9. I went out and managed to land a jack. Had several follows and takes though so it was well worth it.

  11. ERGH? Can I phone a friend please?
  12. My problem as a lure angler with day tickets is that I can cover three or four waters in a day depending on my mood, sometimes a water "feels right" and other days it doesn't so I move on. This means that it can cost me £20 for a days fishing. I do not begrudge (lets see if the spull chucker gets that!) paying but it would be nice to see half day tickets on sale.
  13. JackP, All of the lodges at Heapey hold pike.
  14. Jack, seeing as you are local (even more so if your place hadn't been stuck in Merseyside) have a day out to Heapey. The midges there are pretty mean but the pike can be meaner. It is the perfect pace to test repellants and it is on a day ticket. (Bailiff calls round expected 4 and 6 most nights).
  15. Best advice I can give no matter what method you use, if you cannot go with someone who has handled pike before then stay in your bivvy.
  16. Before you buy search the web. I managed to get a couple of the cheapest ones for about £15 each. They are cheap but damn good value if you ask me.
  17. The only thing to do in dark coloured water is get ot a nice big, bright lure that they can see.
  18. bread, worms, cheese, meat, sweet corn, boilies, hemp, lures, bloodworm, jokers, dog biscuits, tares, nuts, beans, peas, pellets or fish. Club rules depending of course.
  19. Jack, Use any insect repellant that has at least 50% DEET in it and you should be safe. Sainsbury do one call Jungle Formula but make sure you get the one with DEET. Other places worth trying are good camping/outdoor shops. Let us know how you fair. Twitch
  20. Ever thought about shark fishing, sounds like you have the ideal bait!
  21. Hi, Does anyone know who controls the Crook o' Lune? Are day tickets available (and where from)and finally if lure fishing is allowed? Cheers
  22. Graham, care to enlighten us of this 1500 square kilometres of largely unexplored coarse fishing????
  23. I own what I consider to be a custom rod made by Dave Lumb and am delighted with it. Although the blank is standard it was modified by cutting it down from 6' 6" to 5' 10" which makes it a bit stiffer and short enough to lie across the back seat of the car. The idea of cutting down Dave's standard Fooler rod was the idea of Loz Harrop and it was christened Merlin, must admit, it is F%^&ING MAGIC.
