  1. I have asked the question before and had a read around on t'interweb and general thoughts seem to be they aren't a good bait at all for barbel, the odd capture here and there but nothing consistant. Using them to single carp out though.... Now that's a different story

    16 February

Well done for braving it and even bigger well done for catching!
  3. Just seen on facebook a tree has fallen into the river behind the clothing warehouse causing two rivers way to flood. Wonder if they will remove it, could be an interesting new feature if left in situe
  4. Judging by the post of the water coming through from the reed beds I would think pallets pool, bellwood, knotts and Collins are all connected to the kennet at the moment, all but pallets have fences between river and lake
  5. Loads of trees down round here, I imagine there will be a fair few down at hambridge
  6. According to the EA site the kennet at Newbury is now at a record high again, road closures across Newbury and the surrounding areas due to either flooding or trees down. Our power keeps flickering and the upstairs windows are moving with the wind, contemplating moving the kids downstairs and setting up a 'camp' in the front room
  7. That's not a pretty sight! My brother lives on the moors just downstream of that....
  8. Unfortunately Steve around 50-70mm is forecast by Sunday for Reading
  9. Been following a thread over on pistonheads, just caught up with the last 24 hours on there and things are not looking good for this week, it's looking likely for another major storm on Wednesday night followed by one to rival the big storm around christmas. Heavy rain also forecast tonight with a yellow warning in place from 3am. It's not looking like things will be improving any time soon
  10. A pick up with a hardtop on the back I think, green iirc, not sure on make
  11. Was that today Chris? Have to go that way in the morning. Drove over hambridge today and the river is out of it's banks and nearly in the entrance to two rivers way on the Naa side, was surprised to see a car parked at the top end of the csas stretch!
  12. I went to hambridge between Christmas and new year and it had burst it's banks, hate to think what it's like now! There's a tree down in bellwood and the lambourn has burst it's banks at Shaw
  13. That's the price of a car! I could never imagine spending that much on a 'pin even if I could comfortably afford to
  14. http://www.express.co.uk/news/nature/456975/Storm-Brigid-rages-towards-Britain-bringing-150MPH-KILLER-winds-heavy-rain-and-SNOW More scaremongering or are we genuinely in for another bout of awful weather?

    24 January

Was very tired and the two pictures merged into one and I thought it was a huge chub (compared it to the size of the pike and his body) then looked again and saw it was two pictures and changed my comment

Edited to remove tired stupidity, just realised that the chub and pike pictures are two pictures not one
  17. Still better than a blank and a million times better than not getting out at all! Out of interest what 'pin is that?

    Chubbing

Well don Chris great fish, was planning on trotting for chub today at colthrop but one thing led to another and I didn't have time in the end, I was trying to tell myself it wouldn't have paid off as the river wouldn't be in good form and you've just ruined that!
  19. Some very good info on those threads, hopefully I can get mine to anywhere near that level! Fairly happy with how I will make the spool/hub and spindle etc. Just need to figure out a ratchet mechanism and do a rough design (although I know in my head how I want it to look, getting that onto paper with the drawing talent of a 3 year old poses an issue in itself!)
  20. Managed to make time to read half of the thread so far but amazing, thanks for posting it! It's answered a few of the little bits I couldn't figure out in my head. Got a rough plan coming together just need to find some time to get it started
  21. Has anyone on here made their own 'pin on here and got pics? Going to start designing and machining my own ready for the start of next season
  22. Just to try and find the time to get out and fish! Most probably another failed attempt at barbel if I do but it's not all about catching fish (or so I try telling myself when I'm on for a blank)
  23. http://www.barbel.co.uk/site/vbulletin/forum/barbel-talk/9143-winter-barbel-fishing-middle-tidal-trent.html Although short this thread pretty much sums it up I think
  24. At 4.30 this morning the Kennet at Newbury was 2cm over it's highest recorded level!
