  2. Tigger do you use a different pin for each session and discard them afterwards ?
  3. Gents, many thanks for your input, there are a couple of options there to whet my appetite
  4. Ok Chaps, I'm off on my annual pilgrimage to the Cotswold Water Park near Cirencester next week for a bit of Tench fishing. However, as I'm up there for a fortnight, does anyone know of any river/stream fishing up that way where I might run a float through ? I know of the Thames at Lechlade and that I'm not a million miles away from the Bristol Avon but was wondering if there was anything a bit more intimate in the vicinity that was available on day ticket ? Some littlle backstream where a 3lb Roach would be considered a nuisance fish would be nice
  5. Thanks Anderoo, nice photos and 'proper' fishing
  6. Ron Thompson Evo 2 match rod, 10ft from go outdoors and just a tenner !!! NGT Float Max 10ft, £12.25 on the Bay Google '10ft Match rod' go to the 'shopping ' category and fill yer boots. The Mitchell Premium 10ft rod, although more expensive wasn't a bad little rod for the money. Hope this helps
  7. Bury Hill is a well run fishery and the main lake quite pretty this time of year. You even have the option of hiring a punt to fish from ( book in advance to avoid disappointment ) should you so wish. Plenty of Bream and Tench up there plus two other smaller lakes ( a runs small Carp water and a mixed lake with Crucians and some larger Perch ). If you want to feeder fish you could do a lot worse than getting yourself on the front bank and fish for the Bream there. Staff in shop there usually very helpful, cafe on site. If memory serves me correctly there used to be a minimum line strength of 6lb on the main lake. If you really want a pleasant day get out floatfishing from one of the punts and move around a bit ( 'jungle' area of the lake always good for the Tench, fishing in towards the bankside sunken trees and bushes}. Hope this helps. PS Unhooking mats compulsory. Check out their website for further details.
  8. "How to Fish" by Chris Yates ( Hardback ) "While my float's still cocked" by Maurice J Pledger ( Softback ) Both in excellent condition and both lovely reads **********SOLD*****************

  10. Use them for a lot of my piking and very happy with them. As Neil above has mentioned, I have had a few stem breakages and much more efficient when used with mono. Polaris, if you're looking in SORT IT OUT !!!
  11. Agree with the above. If you're not an experienced fisherman then Pike/Catfish fishing is not recommended purely for the fish safety aspect. Find some decent anglers that you can trust to keep quiet and let them have a dabble
  12. Sorted now, thanks guys
  13. Has anybody got a contact number for this club ? Fancy a day out on one of their punts but could find nothing online and tried mailing Bill Rushmer ( a member ) but to date have had no reply.
  14. Ah yes, Terry Thomas ( not the 'Ding,Dong' actor ! ) in Angling Today, wish they had brought out the series on DVD. Looked forward to a bit of Terry on a Saturday morn'.
  15. Keep an eye out for the john Wilson 'Nomad' range. Very good actions for telescopics, came in Avon, float and match versions.
  16. I'm up for it if there are spaces available. Perhaps they'll let us have the syndicate stretch as well if the numbers are up ?

    My trip

Andy, Sorry to get off couse but the OCD in me got me looking at your chair. In the picture of you near the lilly pads it appears that you are in a Korum Accessory chair with modifications ( long silver legs and what look like a couple of brace arms at the back wheras in a later photo it was clearly a standard version with black legs. Was the former someone else's chair ? The only reason I ask is that I was thinking about tinkering with mine and wanted to pick your brains. PM if preferred. Thanks, Dave
  18. I think you might find that the 20% card applies to just one bait purchase per month. They're geting a bit sneaky. If they want anglers through the doors they should do their 50% off everything day that they did a couple of years back Or am I being greedy :D
  19. Sounds like the budget version of 'Jaws'
  20. Oops, missed this out......Welcome to the site Hopey, there's a lot of good fishing minds on here and plenty of bods willing to offer advice, just keep off the subject of 'pins' or they all start to get a bit anal !!
  21. There are still big Tench in the main lake at OBH but I do feel the average size of Tench there has decreased over the last 10 years. Can remember fishing the 'jungle' from a punt years back and the average size was 4lb and those were weighed fish, not guesstimates ! Have had them up to 7lb here before. Can't help on the day ticket front but if you don't mind mixing it with bathers/ swimming dogs/ etc, then get a Farnham AS ticket which will give you access to Frensham Great Pond. A very good average size there but shallow margins so you might have to don the waders and set up your rests offshore. If you can get hold of the Passion For Angling dvd I believe Bob James did a bit up there on it ( During the season as well I believe .... Sorry Bob ! Couldn't resist )
  22. Andy, If you can, have a look at the Drennan Series 7 float reel. Around the same price as the Shakespeare, is lighter, runs as smooth ( I've had both and sold on the Shakey ) and comes with three spools. Even nicer is the Drennan FD3000 with alloy spools ( 3 ) which is smoother still and has a real robust ( now there's a currently overused buzz word ! ) feel about it.
