  1. quote: I blame the government ,if they made this country a duty free one we would be the center of the world for trade All governments need revenue and they get that from taxes. If they were to stop taking in excise duty then they would have to raise their revenue from somewhere else, i.e. a rise in income tax. Therefore you'll have less money to buy all those cheaper goods. So it just goes to show that you can never win. For buying stuff from the States then a friend who travels to your country is probably your best best bet that is if you want to avoid paying excise duty and VAT. It's great to have those type friends
  2. I think Will_this... was only taking the P*** in the first place or he/she may not be the sharpest pencil and that's why school for him/her has started early.
  3. quote: Then a fully spec'ed Audi Allroad 2.5 TDi Quattro. Is there space on the Isle of Muck to run this baby?
  4. quote: i always thought the united kingdom was scotland, england, wales, northern ireland and republic of ireland. and great britain was the same as above with out republic of ireland could someone please confirm or deny this for me I think Nick has outlined the correct answer. 5. Is nobody going to tell Gaffer where the F### Farm Hall is? I've looked it up on ViaMichelin (http://www.viamichelin.com)which is usually very reliable and I can't find it anywhere? Maybe this is one of those X-file moments. Farm Hall association with the A-bomb and all that may not be on any map! Or maybe it's just too small to warrent a mention. Gaffer, why the interest in the place in the first place? Has it got a good fishing spot you don't want anybody to know about?
  6. You're lucky numbers have come up at last after all these years play that stupid game, so how are you going to spend the money? [ 28. August 2002, 08:37 AM: Message edited by: PH ]
  7. 1. Hikarate! (remember that Mens fragrance from the 70's/80's? Who knew what it might attract?) 2. FishKas or Phiskas (as in Whiskas the cat food - get-it?)

  9. It was the US Dollar which kick-started the German economy after the war, as well as the French, Italian and the other Western European economies. Including the UK. The Brits spent all their spare cash fighting the 'Hun' during the war, so it had very little to go investing in foreign countries.

    I`m Back

Ermm, congratulations! So why did you get a divorce? Out fishing all the time and not spending enough time at home blah, blah, blah. Or was it that you said you were out fishing when you were somewhere else. You don't have to tell if it's too private.

  14. Are these people for real?! I mean, sapping fox hunting is one thing but angling?! Why don't they go after some of the supertrawlers like the Atlantic Dawn ? Lets see them trying to stop those babies.

  16. quote: PH, you must be a computer expert because you know a lot about F1, can you tell me what all these keys do from F1 through to F12? I am scared to hit them as I have no idea what they do. What the F1/F12 keys are for all depends on what application you're using. For example if you are using IE at the moment then... F1 = Help F2 = nothing F3 = Brings up the 'Search' bar F4 = Pulls down the url 'Address' control F5 = Refresh - reloads the web page F6 = Highlights the URL address F7 = nothing F8 = nothing F9 = nothing F10 = Highlights the menus and icons for navigation F11 = Full Screen F12 = nothing Never be afraid to press any key on the keyboard, learn by trial and error. And what is the worst that could happen?
  17. Might depend on the encoding you've got set on the browser. Select from the IE menu 'View' - 'Encoding'. It should say 'Western European (ISO)' or 'Western European (Windows)'. That is if you are accessing a web site that displays the currency symbols as dollars, pound signs or as the Euro? If you want the browser to display another currency type then you may have to choose a different encoding.
  18. The Win98 startup disk comes in handy when you want to trash the OS and do a fresh install. Format the hard disk and bootup the machine on the floppy. This loads tempory CD drive drivers for you, when then allows you to select the CD ROM drive via the DOS Prompt You can then take your Windows CD (Win98, WinNT, Win2000 or WinXP) and start installing the new OS. Win98 Start Up Disk - don't leave home without it!
  19. Rallying's great stuff indeed and i know a lot of people turning to it recently. Up until then they were F1 fans like myself. But F1 has got a bit boring now. I use to watch all the races religously but this year I haven't been bothered. What would you prefer F1 or Rally?
  20. Hi Nick, Seriously, was that you on the teevee last night? The well fed lad with the wife and kids on the Isle of Muck? It looks like an ideal lifestyle  . Plenty of green fields, the sea, and the fresh air. What the fishing like? PH
  21. Sounds like a nice place. What's the fishing like?
  22. Does anyone have a Film/Slide scanner? If you do, how is it working out?
  23. No doubt about it, digi cameras are the future. However, there will be times you wish you had your old SLR. Picture this. You're out on a boat and the fishing is great. You're taking pictures of everything you catch. Then you catch a big one, or you see some dolphins doing their stuff, or you see a sea-monster! You want to take a picture but you can't! Your memory is all used up! And you don't happen to have your PC all setup on board and you certainly don't want to delete any of the images you have already, so what do you do? Nothing. You can do nothing. Right you might have an extra memory card, but those babies are expensive. And it will be times like this that you wished you had your old film camera. OK, so you could run out of film as well, but your probably less likely too. Because everybody has a couple of extra rolls of film handy. They're cheap as chips and you can buy them almost anywhere?
  24. The Cow's probably thinking "...I wonder what pussie taste like..." (sorry, that's crude I know) Chester is that your field? You may need to get it 'topped', so as to provide more grazing for the cow.
  25. quote: I tried it newt but did not get far infact not far at all!!! Tried booting from a floppy but it would not do it, it came up with "irregular disc hit any key to continue" Hi dave_h, When Newt means a floppy disk I think he means a 'Win 98 bootdisk' disk and not no ordinary floppy disk. If you don't have one you can always create your own. To create a Windows 98 Startup disk that supports the FAT32 file system: Place the Windows 98 CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive, and have a floppy disk available Select Start > Programs, then click Windows Explorer Open the following folder on the Windows 98 CD-ROM: ToolsMtsutilFat32ebd Double-click the file Fat32ebd.exe, and then follow the instructions to create the Startup disk
