  1. copied and pasted if anyone is ar$ed to check it - llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch Looks fine to me ayjay
  2. I've had a wax jacket that took a great deal of heaving to raise to the surface, also had a length of underwater cable, and a stereo unit. My son had a dining room chair, which he landed.
  3. Not too sure about that kleinboet, Herman would have him off like he has many others over the years.
  4. Keith is one of the few 'celeb' anglers I have met and spoken with and come away with the feeling that he is a jolly decent chap, not out to help me part with my cash. I have watched many of his sky shows and he dishes what seems like solid sound common sense advice. He is passionate about angling and I don't always agree with his opinions but I have the utmost respect for him. I wish him all the very best with his new show.
  5. I watched the moto GP race on TV this afternoon when I got home from my morning session, what a cracker that was, with Stoner Rossi and Pedroza scrapping for the lead for most of the race. Full of excitement and spectacle. I also saw the GP from Canada, and it the exact opposite, glad the driver was relatively unscathed from what could easily have been a horrific accident. Well done to Lewis too, I'm sure he will just get better and better, and win many races. But spectacle...? ermmm NO. Exciting...? well NO. Entertaining...? well for once I stayed awake throughout but that's not an endorsement really. This was a real lowlight in what the once marvellous F1 show has become, lap after lap behind a safety car... for pity's sake if you can't race on a track littered with a few dead cars why is it even on the F1 calendar. If it hadn't been for some Jap driver there would hardly have been any on-track overtaking all race. Why do they bother I have to ask? Of course I do know the answer BIG-Business. I just feel so sad to see a once great sporting spectacle reduced to this. F1...RIP 2007.
  6. I just had a look at 51 deg 21'31.96" 0 deg 2'10.27" in your neck of the woods chesters, it brought back some memories... Even those pics look outdated, as I believe the big glass building on the roundabout near the airfield road is now a housing estate.
  7. I've just compared both local live and google earth, and the pics aren't the same, or at least the google pics are more up to date. On google earth an apartment block is clearly visible whereas on local live the same site shows the factory which was demolished a few years back to build the housing. My own home pic has recently been updated on google, I can tell by the car, but the new pic is less defined. Local live will only resolve to a much higher altitude, can't even see the tomatoes in the greenhouse huh!
  8. I hope you got the artwork protected this should be sent to the media its brilliant!!! The 'other' one to my eye looks like a kids representation of the london skyline, lots of weird block like structures with no coherent philosophy. Even the familiar five-rings logo is an add-on afterthought.
  9. And a fine job you make of it Alan if I may say, though my pin casting never really took off (literally) despite your valiant efforts. I'm not sure I'll make it this year due to injury, my fishing is restricted to one-handed whip at the moment.
  10. Hi Cal, think you mean the george carnell leisure centre at urmston trafford park? the last show there in spring was free entry so no booking tickets, can't see a show there in june on their website:- http://www.specialex.co.uk/index.html Cheers
  11. Thanks Chris I will be visiting a dealer as you suggest, there is a large dealer near me NWAC who do have such a set up its just that I value the sort of independent comments and advice found on this forum. Darren it sounds like you got a pretty good deal can I ask where you got it?
  12. When I was a young lad I used to think that living in russia or nazi germany (admittedly before my time) involved having to carry 'papers' to identify yourself, being stopped and questioned randomly by the authorities, and I remember thinking so that's why we have democracy and why my grandfather fought in the war. My impression of the police then was that they were good guys on 'our' side and if you don't do anything wrong you have nothing to fear. I now feel that our free democratic country is almost unrecognisable from then, and whilst the vast majority of the force are still on 'our' side it is no longer true to say ...you have nothing to fear if you've done nowt wrong. That is the usual line trotted out by government and repeated by the populous, but it only works when you have a government, system, and police force that are reasonably free from corruption and influence, and not having to perform to achieve some arbitrary target or satisfy the policy of an individual or group with an agenda. I cannot see a terrorist threat being averted by a random stop and search, these things normally involve intelligence and undercover operations, there is no logical argument which will convince me that stopping ordinary people on the streets going about their daily lives will do anything to prevent or detect terrorism, the notion is absurd. We will no doubt submit to this, yet another erosion of our freedom, but how long before we face Irish style roadblocks and checkpoints, and routine body searches... its a sad day.
  13. Some time ago I bought a cheap Leeda Assassin pole basically to play with and get a feel for pole fishing. The time has come for me to upgrade to something a little more robust, however I am still on a budget so I dont want to spend more than approx £300 does anyone have any suggestions? I have seen a Shimano technium around 13.5m very smooth, light and reasonably priced but any info will be gratefully received, thanks.
  14. Cal, when you've worked your way through the warrington card have a wander down the Sankey canal Newton-le-willows club have some nice waters too.
  15. Fluorocarbon can be found in light hooklengths but I wouldn't go to such an expensive change if you are chasing carp, just look for a finer diameter hooklength. If there are carp or tench grubbing around in your swim the water will cloud up anyway. As for joining it to the mainline, the simplest method is loop to loop, tie a loop in the end of the mainline, and one in end of the hooklength (ready made usually have one ) pass mainline loop through the other and pass hook and hooklength through loop in mainline, moisten and pull tight.
  16. Have a look at the following link Cal:- http://www.warrington-anglers.org.uk/Waters.asp
  17. Mmmm... I expected a little more action, only one bite... Personally I would love to see an otter on the riverbank, it would be great to see a thriving population supported by adequate fish stocks. In fact much like it used to be before the balance was tipped against the otter and the fish stocks. To quote brumagem phil... ''the only thing wrong with nature is WE keep interfering'' I agree and that's my point really.... WE very likely, re-introduced the otter, its happening throughout the country including here in cheshire. I would like to believe that prior to such reintroduction of a major predator, research is done to ensure that WE are not destroying the balance once more, however being cynical I doubt it happens. I would like to be proved wrong. Unfortunately otters are seen as cute creatures by joe public and anyone who harms them is a nasty criminal, I wish our fish stocks had similar protection and regard, and that includes from pike killers, migrants fishing for the pot, and yes... any crazy going about with a shotgun.
  18. Oh how sad.... next..... Actually the labelling of the culprit as a criminal who must be apprehended is interesting, makes him or her sound like a real villain who is going around spoiling the sterling work being done to reintroduce otters... the cad. If there was as much fuss over apprehending the thugs who disrupt the legal practise of angling and physically attack that other 'protected' human species, as there is over one wild creature getting shot, perhaps some of us would feel a little more compassionate.
  19. Very interesting article Newt, Its also interesting to see what rods other folk are using for their lure fishing. Personally, I used for some time a shakespeare ugly stick 6'6" which has a soft action, this is really nice for small rapalas where every little twitch is passed into the rod tip. I also have a stiffer longer 9' rod which copes with pike up to double figures but I could never really feel comfortable with plastics. So I have bought a 7'6" lure rod which is somewhat in the middle of the other two, and its designed for a multiplier, so I am about to embark on some plastic worm lobbing(?) sessions. Thanks for the tips on how to rig and fish the worm I have a collection of weird and wonderful plastics which my grandfather bought and used in Canada many of which look identical to those in your pics. I was considering how to rig with weights and have some egg sinkers (drilled bullets to you) so your advice is timely. If I may make one small criticism to your write ups... you use the term 'limber' to describe the rod action, which was a little odd to me, I am happier with the terms 'soft' 'through' or 'tip' action. You touch on the use of scents, do you add any flavours to your plastics, if so how? have you ever used WD40? Best wishes to your good lady I hope she is soon recovered from the recent tests.
  20. Just like to say a big thank you to Nash tackle for their prompt no quibble replacement of a chair leg which failed to live up to expectations, the chair wasn't exactly new but their actions have ensured that I will be checking out their products in future... cheers Nash.
  21. Don't know how old your children are Chris, mine are both grow up and left home now, but when they were younger I'm not sure I would have approved of their viewing such a picture. Its the old chestnut of how do you view the women in those pictures, is it the viewer who interprets it as overtly sexual and inviting, as most of the posters seem to have done judging from the comments, or is it possible to view it any other way?
  22. Maybe some of us have a pretty good idea what this proposal may lead to, I don't think I'm confused, I'm certainly not a prude, I have no axe to grind with any other member, I don't care for comments like... so you don't want to be an adult... mmm very grown up. I don't expect to see porn or swearing cross threading I respect the mods judgement too much for that. If this proposal goes ahead my personal opinion is that the very thing you are seeing right now will ruin our forums, and that is an increase in back-biting and personal verbal attack spilling across forums. Yes, there may be some good (better) humour, some more pics such as Chris Goddards recent offering, and almost certainly some interesting and direct debates, but its the bitching and swiping that will leak out and make AN a less pleasant place to call in to for general topics. So please don't label the negative responses as not so adult we are merely expressing a desire to see AN continue as a pleasant experience for the majority of members male and female and the casual guest.
  23. I think Rabbit is probably sailing nearer reality than you Kleinboet, the fact is that stuff does cross forum and topic now and our mods do a great job of getting onto it, but its not an insult to them to admit they are only human. As for slanging Rabbit with the comment re 'you don't want to be an adult' that's a bit much. Maybe Rabbits analogy wasn't the best... I think its a bit like smoking... those who excercise their right to smoke, and those who would like to be smoke free but can't avoid it. As you say its up to Elton but personally if the forum becomes inaccessible from work as has been suggested it might, and there is a 'leakage' of content which seems very likely, I would have to consider not bothering with it any more.
  24. Aye Rob, I know what's written and intended but you know as well as I do that an adult forum will open the door to adult themes and boundaries will be crossed. I just believe there's no place for it on Anglers Net, that is my opinion.
  25. I'm with Den on this one, he put the argument against better than I could, I can see threads spilling over from one to another now, it could become a moderators minefield, I hope the guys are well clued up on legal matters, its a slippery slope Elton please don't go there.
