Everyone has a learning curve Newt. I remember some of the tests that you are talking about for the military. They call it the ASVAB now. (didn't know they had it back then ) I got the short end of the stick when brains were being handed out, but back then common sense was the order of the day. There is no PC way to talk about something like this without offending someone. The bottom line is you can't profile any single race. What I find disconcerting is comments like "Down with the western infidels" and in the same sentence "long live Allah". It's scary when you can't trust your neighbor. Just my two cents.

To have a decent connection you want to be within 2 miles of the telephone exchange. - .5 meg is still better than dialup. You typically can download (receive data) quicker than you could upload (send data) the .5 meg is download speed I think.

That is up for debate I'm sure. Never heard anything bad about wanadoo although I use aol and have never had any problems. The only issue we had was when our village got dsl capability we had to wait for BT to let aol know which area had been switched. Took about a week. I will never go back to dialup. Hopefully there is nothing wrong with your lines. Just because BT says they have 95% broadband coverage for the UK still doesn't mean you can get it even if your villages' exchange has it available.
