Totally unimportant as far as the competition is concerned, but the *Figs* pic is actually a Fatsia Japonica. I had it pinned down as a "Fatshedera" ..... possibly.

As you say Judy, some excellent and diverse shots entered in Octobers Comp. The quality gets better and better ! To gain selection for the final six is an achievment in itself, and who is to say that one of your shots is not among them ? It's all down to the independant judge ! I was unfortunately not able to get any pics in myself, due to "curtailments" on my mobility recently. It would have been nice to have been among such company. Wiggly.

Just an observation really ... Large outdoor pond, nice setup, filters, plants, lotsa life, plenty fish, plenty frogs and other wiggly things. In summer it's fine, but the water always has that greenish tinge. But I have noticed with the onset of below 10 degree temps that the water has become brilliantly clear and the full 5ft depth is easily seen .... happens every year. Do algae, plankton, duckweed etc have a low tollerance to these conditions ? Is it a "death zone" for the little critters ?

And just been announced that Ross is to be suspended from all BBC progs for 3 months .. Without pay. I would have sacked him. I know that "Humor" has to cover many different parameters. But insult, bad language, offence and degradation is universally abhorant.

Hail showers coming through Cornwall about now. 14.52 28/10/08 Interspersed with periods of bright sunshine. Cold.

A little snow up on Dartmoor this morning, and a 10 minute hailstorm yesterday PM down in South Cornwall.

A fascinating collection of pictures Judy. I remember a lot of "Little Mesters" around the City Hall/West Street area, as well as down at the bottom of Commercial street. These men were very highly skilled indeed, and used to do a vast range of crafts,ranging from cutlery to silversmith and glass diamond wheel cutting. I spent many a happy hour as a small child with my father in these little dark lanes A trip down memory lane for me .... Thank you very much.

I understand that recent reports state that an appliance on "standby" still uses up to 80% of the power that it uses whilst switched on. Having said that, my TV has no "Off" button on the set itself. "Off" on the remote just switches it onto "standby". The only way to switch the TV off is to disconnect the power by unplugging at the wall. On powering back up it has to go through a full station scan ... with all the problems that entails. So I'm afraid mine stays on standby .....

Hi Folks ... We have recently had a couple of cases in the picture Comp where members picture entries have all appeared in the same posting, despite having used different "Add Reply" slots. It appears that it takes a certain ammount of time for the individual replies to establish themselves, and if you try to add another reply too quickly the replies "melt" into each other. Could I therefore ask members to allow a reasonable ammount of time between using multiple "Add Reply". With a bit of luck this will solve the problem. Cheers .. Wiggly.
