  1. hi tony i'm not targeting anything in particular as my son and i are only novices,i had a 14lb carp in september last year and that gave me a buzz but i've not had anything like it since, can you give me any tips for down there at this time of year?.
  2. hi all, i've been really lucky and managed to get a cheap week down at white acres from 12 to 17 of april will any of you be going down so soon as it would be nice to meet a face from behind one of these strange names we all have,if not can anyone suggest somewhere that a family of four can stay overnight as its about an eight or nine hour drive from yorkshire and it would kill the kids to do it in one stint.
  3. Famous last words mabe? mayor of Hiroshima-what was that bang? harold at battle of hastings-that pillock will have someones eye out. general stonewall jackson, they couldn't hit a barn door at this dist..... lookout on titanic-is that an iceberg? any more?
  4. bradford angler, i'm from your neck of the woods and just wondered where you wanted them for.
  5. you bunch of pervs, methinks you are spending too much time holding on to the wrong pole!!!,i think nurse judy should give some of you boys a rub down with the angling times and send you on a weekend with she who must be obeyed.
  6. Hi there, yep,it's a temperature thing, the warmer the maggot gets the more it wriggles. incidentally if you swallow one by accident they contain more protein than best steak(pound for pound). tight lines.
  7. Hi all, when you are starting out all these mags are good and you can aquire quite a lot of info, but i agree with the majority that after a while they seem to go stale,i have to admit that since becoming a member of this forum i have learned a hell of a lot more and if you dont get the answer you need someone will put you on to a good link. in my very humble oppinion one of the best sites on the net is run by a great guy called steve randles (anyone heard of him)his site(anglers-rest.co.uk)has been invaluable to me and my young son and we have learned far more from him and this site than all the mags books and vids put together. tight lines,Bigman.
  8. well said gilbertron but what the hell are you doing on a fishing forum???
  9. Hi all, i reckon i am entitled to have an oppinion on this even as a (YORKSHIREMAN),most teams rip off the fans one way or another wether it be the cost of strips or whatever, but at the end of the day we all make our choice, the last time i took my son and friend to see leeds it cost over a hundred pounds for the day,i cannot afford those prices any more so we won't be going again,i also understand that there will always be friendly rivalry between clubs, but as i consider myself to be a true sports fan even when man u are playing in europe i always cheer for and want the british team to win, lets not ever get away from the fact that its just sport, its the people who control it that we need to whatch and make responsible for ruining our(beautifull)game.
  10. soldiers do not choose who tells them what to do and when to do it,but they do choose to be soldiers don't they??my nephew serves in the army and according to him he has a great life, but he still accepts that he joined with the possibility of some kind of conflict at the back of his mind. so god forbid that anything awful mighnt happen to him,but as a level headed young man he accepts that it could, his mum (my sister)on the other hand would rather he were at home.
  11. I would be suprised if it were sheep sh*t,if it is then the connotation and wording is very clever because of it's apparent honest simplicity.
  12. Hi all, well i have to go with the majority on this one,i have been out of work for 6 months after 10years with the same company. I recieve the grand total of f all from the government because my wife has the audasity to work full time, you'd think that after 28 years of paying taxes that i'd be entitled to a little bit of something,i have sent off over 60 applications for work but not had any luck yet, so loonyl why not send me a few quid as a gift and i can buy the equipment i need to set up on my own. praise be to the lord of the lottery!!!.
  13. Hi again dunk, because of something i put in my profile i was sent your e.mail address anyway but don't worry i will not give it out to anyone anyway. p.s the world needs activists(people who have an oppinion). good health. bigman.
  14. thanks dunk,i don't know how to let you safely have my address as i would love to read the book, can you help?
  15. whats this about the fumes god,i have kids in the house.
  16. hi all, did anyone see the programe at 7.30 on bbc2 last night, johnathan meades suggested that only pike were worth eating out of our waters, what the hell is that gonna do to the pike population? bigman.
  17. hi all can someone tell me how to cook hemp, how long for,how to present it and if i should groundbait with it at the same time, cheers. bigman.
  18. Thanks wag, very interesting article and it seemed to prove what i said in my original letter. what say you chesters??.
  19. by the way chesters thanks to dunk i remembered that it was matt hayes who was talking about the fish telling one another, you can't believe that it's just chub that spook each other can you.
  20. Cheers chesters everyones a comediene arnt they, i was talking about 15 to 20 ft deep and this old guy was not joking about pressure damage, sea fish do have a lot of metabolic differences thats why angler fish and the like dont seem affected when brought up from serious depth.
  21. hi all, can anyone confirm what i heard that perch caught in deepish water should not be kept in the net because the change in water pressure can cause their swim bladder to expand and kill them also does anyone believe that a released fish goes and (tells) the others. cheers bigman.

  23. don't be too downhearted chris i've been on their website and its just about booked solid.
  24. just as a footnote on this what is the average weight of a jack pike anyone know?
  25. hi you two, i didn't realise that a pike of 10lb is not so small, so thanks for the ribbing and putting an ignorant beginner in his place,i get most of my info from whatching mr wilson and mr hayes and they just seem to regard this size of fish as small. near where we live you can catch them all day round about this size as we have recently found out. by the way thanks very much for the info peter. all the best to you both.
