  1. Hi Chris. Congratulations in advance on becoming a Grandfather. I agree with you, but only up to a point. For example when is it to early to smack ones child? Three months is obviously a bit tender, so is six months OK or should one wait until 9 months? Obviuosly now that both your girls are young adults you don't smack them anymore, so at what age did they become 'to old' for a smack On the whole I regret most of the occassions that I smacked my kids, and wish that I had found a better way to punish them.
  2. Well I blame teachers for that. Teachers need to be able to command respect. When I was at school in Scotland our teachers had the tawse if they felt the need to administer corporal punishment. The best teachers never used theirs.
  3. Inherited, taught, whatever you want to call it each generation passes on its morals and values to the next generation. Judging by the state of things MY generation has not done a very good job on the whole.
  4. Those morals or the lack of them were inherited from the generation that went before.
  5. No doubt bluezulu already has a gross of them
  6. Well if they played like holland did, then they would have been beaten, and deservedly so.
  7. I have read a story on the BBC News web site today about Number 10 being against making it illegal for parents in England and Wales to smack their kids. Read here for the full story. I think that it is already to smack your children in Scotland, but I am not sure. Now don't get me wrong, I think that parents should be permitted to smack their kids, within reason. Both of mine know what it is like to have a hot @ss when they have misbehaved, but I doubt that I will smack either of them again. My daughter is nearly 14 now and I think that there is something 'off' about a man of 44 smacking a girl of 14 years even if she is his daughter and my son, aged 8 is so well behaved that I cannot remember the last time he merited a smack, but it was at least 3 years ago. When does legitimate parental control become physical abuse? [ 21. June 2004, 01:04 PM: Message edited by: corydoras ]

  10. Keep the tackle light and the line tight. Good luck Alan.

Come to think of it Salar, if all the money the Treasury takes on tax disks, as well as 100% of the Fuel Duty was actually spent on the highways we would have the best roads in the world. [ 18. 12. About 25 years ago I hooked what I _think_ was a skate from the shore near Arrochar on Loch Long. I was casting out about 80 or so yards from the shore (it is one of those spots where it does not pay to cast out 100+ yds) using 25-30lb BS monofilament. Whatever it was just swam slowly but powerfully away down the loch. I could not stop or turn the thing and when had taken all the line from the spool it snapped me off. Don't all run off to Loch Long it is well overfished and trawled out now, you would be lucky to catch much more than a cold or be eaten by midges.
  13. I agree with you Alan, for what it is worth. Football is not much more than a brawl these days. I sometimes wonder why they have a referee at all. [ 18. June 2004, 07:37 PM: Message edited by: corydoras ]

  16. Try them on a light float fishing rig with bread flake or crust.
  17. How do you prune your gooseberries?
  18. Sounds more like 'tax everyone the same as me'. As the man said, why should you get your diesel for your boat cheaper than I can buy it for my car?
  19. Have to agree with Peter on this one. Call the cops is the proper thing to do.
  20. So pray tell me what tackle that I, Corydoras the sea angler should not be able to buy without an EA rod licence? [ 16. June 2004, 01:55 PM: Message edited by: corydoras ]
