  1. Thanks guys its put my mind to rest. Initialy I thought it was fungus as the head went white first. I have quite a few fry swimming round, and was worried about these.
  2. Amongst other fish I have several Comets. One of which has lost all its colour and is now totaly white. Is there an underlying problem or is this normal?
  3. Check the instructions with the tent, many need the seams sealed. Easy enough to do with a seam sealer. I'd also errect it at home and put the hose pipe on it then allow to dry. Check for any obvious leaks. Bast to do this at home rather than find a problem when your miles from anywhere.
  4. http://www.rudyardlake.com/ click on the link for contacts and it will give the number for the ranger. John is an angler and will provide up to date info on how the lakes fishing.
  5. The EA stock trout into the Trent above Stoke on Trent. A Trout farm at Stone regularly loses Trout into the Trent.

All of the emergency services are allowed to disregard the national speed limit when under going training as well as responding to an emergency. I was in a senator 3lt 24 valve.

  8. Have you tried Stapeley Water Gardens, they carry a good range of pumps etc?
  9. "I can see the headline now PETA kills 10,000 fish to establish angling mortality rate !" Thats exactly what peta would do. If I'm not mistaken there against any type of pet ownership, and there answer is to round up all dogs and cats then release them in to the wilds of Scotland????
  10. Newt thanks for the advice, unfortunatly that didnt work. The pc went haywire. Eventually managed to do a restore which tamed it. Tried a reinstall over the top. This didnt work either but did bring up a new error message. That the problem was hard/software related. I had just reinstalled AVG7 so I uninstalled it. Result is that the pc now starts ok. I downloaded Avast but when I try to install that it comes up error and states the temp internet files as the source. Is there another freebie AV that you can reccomend?
  11. Every time I start up I get xp has recovered from a serious error. Browser is IE6 The error messages are as follows. C:windowsminidumpmini22404-0dmp C:docume~1johnlocals~1tempwer1.tmp.dir00sysdata.xml The figure in the first line 22404-0 does change ie -01 or -2 Can anyone help? Forgot to add I have run several av's spybot and adaware. Nothing was reported. [ 26. December 2004, 01:54 PM: Message edited by: grumpybum ]
  12. Heres a twist in the tail. From where do we get the waters we fish? Answer, the farmers and land owners of this country. Who forms the biggest majority of fox hunters? I'll leave you to answer that. If were not seen to support them could they react by saying ok you wont support us so were not supporting you. You have lost the fishing ***** off my land. It is happening Shropshire farmers and land owners are banning R.A.F helicopters from over flying their land in protest at the ban. I bet were not far down the list.
  13. Why do pike anglers use trebles? Isnt it due to the hard bony mouth of the fish. Using a treble ensures at least one point goes home? I have tried the VB doubles but not the Drennan, there is a difference between them. I have caught pike on them but returned to semi barbless trebles. The problem with double hooks is that they can and do lie flat to the bait so causing missed or dropped runs. Trebles cannot lie flat!
  14. River line for the midland rivers 0906 6197744 but its 50p per min.
  15. Injecting baits with flavourings etc, is it as effective as we think? Fish have a skin, then scales, right on top of which is a layer of mucus. All designed by mother nature to keep bodily fluids in. So we inject additives and expect them to flod out in to the surrounding water?
  16. Bluezulu, a typicaly ill informed comment. Only the other night Both Stafford and Stone Stafford on the River Sow and Stone on the River Trent were badly flooded. I witnessed the flooded fields around Stafford on Saturday. Therefore I think Anthony did the right thing by not risking his life.
  17. The problem I have is accessing my on line account. I had another email this morning stating that strange as its sounds changing my IP addy as stated could cure the problem. Newt I cant bring anything up from the dos file. [ 03. August 2004, 10:11 AM: Message edited by: grumpybum ]
  18. Well I can meet 4 out of the 5 criteria. The only one I fail on is age. So what would be my chances for getting away with an angling offence? It still sets a precedent though doesn't it? Will any angler over say 65/70 ever have to buy a rod licence again? A caution at his age means nothing. Having a criminal record at his age isnt exactly a punishment is it?
  19. My server admits to a problem due to many people trying to access a member centre on the same IP address There answer is as follows To resolve this issue, we are advising people to do a power cycle (unplug the modem, turn the computer off, turn the computer back on and plug the modem back in) five times, as this changes the IP address of the modem. Is this right? or am I being fobbed off with a pathetic excuse. My connection is broadband. O S win xp pro
  20. It also doesnt take in to account the test curve of the rod used, the weight of leger or feeder etc being used. It also shows a lack of respect for the fish. Yes a fish could be landed but what condition would it be in if it was played for an extended period of time due to to light a breaking strain line being used? Far better to use a more suitable breaking strain so as not to exhaust any fish to much. For Barbel of the size stated I'd be looking at 10lb bs line with a 8lb hook length minimum.
  21. I havent noticed any change to the service I get from freeserve/wanadoo.
  22. Providing your not intending to chuck big feeders across a biggish river. then you wont go far wrong with a traditional test curve avon type rod. The John Wilson probably being the best.
  23. Was your question born out of ignornce or just a side ways swipe at a branch of angling you dislike. The bite alarm was developed in the early days of carp fishing when to get a run was a red letter day. No one is capable of watching two floats efficently even for a few minutes. Its difficult to concentrate on two leger rods even during the day never mind at night. Have you ever considered there may be a medical reason for using alarms? In my case there is! If I stare at a float for to long I get a migraine. This is caused by the sun reflecting of the surface ripple ie a strobe effect. So my answer is to use alarms when i can so I dont stare at the water. Having said that why is it that anglers of different branches cant accept the methods from another branch. I dont like sea angling i dont like match angling but you will never hear me knock them. Rather the reverse I will support them in their chosen field.
  24. Theres such a thing as "setting a precedent" If the EA states they wont prosecute due to age. Then what message does that give to those anglers over 65?. No need for them to buy another rod licence is there? No need to fish only two rods? Need I go on? I wonder what the feelings would have been, had the fish targetted been bream or dare I say it carp?
  25. The water being netted is known to contain argosylus (hope the spellings correct) The EA bailiff informed my buddie that he had spoken to the scientic bods who advised him to have the pike destroyed. This is what happened. I happen to disagree with it, but felt that it needed to be brought to anglers attentions. I myself asked the EA for proof that any live baits illegaly transported had caused disease. Guess what the answer was???
