  3. Years ago fly fishing a gin clear lake I threw in a jersey herd which had been damaged. I could see it very clearly lying on the bottom. It suddenly disappeared and a brownie swam away.
  4. I can fore see one problem, and thats over runs from a taking pike. There isnt any way of controlling the reel giving line unless you tighten up on the spindle. This would cause unnecessary resistance.
  5. I'm pretty sure that there is legislation already in place covering disabled access. This does cover fisheries. Which obviously means theres an enormous financial burden to all clubs, owners etc. Personally I disagree with it ,much preferring a natural look. Having said that, being disabled myself I have to pick venues that suit me.
  6. About 15yrs ago I rescued an owl trapped in nylon line. The owl and the nylon were wrapped around a chimney on a house. In those days I carried a lock knife kept razor sharp. A few strokes of the knife and the bird was feed. Back on the ground the bird had the rest of the nylon cut away, the bird was handed over to the RSPCA. Now comes the twist the owner of the bird came forward to claim it. Seems he was teaching it to return to him by tying the nylon to a leg then allowing it to fly. As to the cost my info is a few years out of date so no doubt there higher know. Fire Appliance £100 per hour or part of. Fire fighter £50 per hour or part of. Then theres an admin charge and VAT. The Fire Service class this type of call as a special service of which there are 2 types emergency and non emergency. All non emergency calls are normally charged. However emergency special service calls are. Emergency calls are normally life saving ie road accidents, animals in my day werent charged for being thought of as good deeds.
  7. Of course it is My normal level varies between 3.7 to 5.2 so why allow any chance of a b*******g. Like blood pressure just one isolated test proves nothing other than thats the level at that moment in time. While were at it remember theres more than one type of cholesterol being tested for. I also have a high lipids level. I have been on omega6/3 tablets to but was taken off them after being told that they were not effective enough. Me I believe it was actually the cost that made the medical profession come out against prescribing them. Medical opinion is changing all the time but it takes a long while to filter down.
  8. Theres some evidence that high cholesterol is inherited. My father who has high cholesterol cant control it by diet alone. The last time the doc tried without statins he was 14+. I also believe that like blood pressure an individual will have a level that suits them. I also know that what you eat up to 2 days before a test will be reflected in the test. I learnt this the hard way. Now 2 days before any test I deliberately restrict my diet knowing it will result in a low figure.
  9. Just a push on fit. They improve the appearance of the plain speaker Also afford some what better water resistance.
  10. Not true there is a big difference in front wheel, rear wheel drive and four wheel drive. The film was on ice so the speed was applicable to the conditions. Have you had any skid pan driving instruction? Speeds above 10mph are virtually impossible.
  11. I would agree that the correct way is head down. How ever for moving water the opposite allows a much better presentation.
  12. Can FIFA be included? http://uk.news.yahoo.com/anger-fifas-engla...-110259627.html
  13. I hope this doesnt offend. If it does please delete. Over to Bradley Walsh
  14. Been in tesco this morning and not in stock. After enquiring at enquiry desk it appears that Rolston Items are not stocked regularly. They get infrequent deliveries of a large box containing various Rolston items.
  15. Like Steve I'm a bit out of touch. However you wont go far wrong with a feeder, casting approx 30-40m. Beware though its a very rocky bottom with in places a very well defined drop off that is a natural tackle trap. A lot of anglers on the strike stand up with the rod held high to get fish over it. The lake tends to fish better in different areas depending on the time of year. The matchmen move their matches up and down to try and keep up with this fish movement. At a guess and it is a guess I'd try around peg 70.
  16. Use the smallest float that conditions and casting distance allow. A 1in dia polyball would be sufficient for a lot of situations. Put a large lead on instead of the trace, set the depth so its slightly over depth Then add the number of swan shot needed to cock the float (remove the lead). Cast out and tighten down to the float.
  17. Elton, the report says fishing line strung along pathways and roads. So its not litter but a concious act designed to cause pain and suffering.
  18. Sounds to me like a lack of smoothness when recasting. Any jerk knock will bounce the float around the tip. Try lengthening the distance between rod tip and float, in old money 12 - 15 inches. Keep all recasting movements smooth and consistent. practice will help.
  19. Some how I just dont believe some of the figures. Squirrel, rat and fox spring to mind. Never mind mink. I'm thinking that there so many individuals who will set traps never mind shooting them, that there will never be a true number of casualty's
  20. If your referring to boilies then this is already done by the numerous bait companies out there. They also mix, roll and boil them which is the time consuming part of boilie making. All to your specified recipe.
  21. Having picked up a virus that microsoft essentials didnt pick up I loaded avast. It did identify a potential threat which I removed. I then ran avast which found nothing. On the report it stated that the following files couldnt be checked. algo.dll aswcmnbs.dll aswcmnis.dll asweagin.dll and aswscan.dll Despite doing a search for these files nothing was found. Are these files ok or are they hiding a nasty?
  22. I had the misfortune to buy a six shooter. After just 2 months I took it back to the shop. It was continually slipping from free spool whilst casting. I was also disgusted with the clutch its probably the worst I have ever seen or used. It was impossible to tighten it fully. This isnt a fault with the reel but for some reason its built in. I was experiencing line slip as lures were retrieved. The reel was swapped for a daiwa what a difference.
  23. Jewsons or local builders merchant?
  24. As far as I can remember this question came to the fore when Optonics were introduced. I may be wrong and the BJ alarm started it. However the field was split between the two types. I went down the road of the extension cable. Stuck with this for years. I have since changed preferring the self contained head type, no trailing wires. I cant say I noticed any drop off in runs. If one thinks about how they work.... the alarm sounds this is transfered to the casing then to the internal plastic separating panels through to the wheel. The vibration then enters the line which goes through the rings and so in to the water, ending up at the hook not forgetting the hanger. Seems to me there are so many points that dampen the vibration. So is the vibration strong enough to reach the hook.
