  1. Just one question. What ID would you need to provide to get an ID card?
  2. My my how the mighty have fallen. I was, without provocation, subjected to pitiful mirth recently when by sheer luck (and the odd bribe to a ref, it was never offside), Porto managed to prevent the Magnificent Mancs from the favoured showdown of an all english champions league Semi Final. I managed to show great restraint following the clash of the titans on Saturday whilst booking a further visit to Cardiff, but alas, after 90 minutes of pure determiniation by a greatly spirited Chelsea side, i can wait no more..... You're Gooner win nothing!!!!! AND, both winning goals were scored by English Internationals!
  3. Ken L I know exactly where you're coming from. I left what was the DSS five years ago, however my partner is still there, and in the same capacity as when i left all be it under a new title. We were (and she still is) employed as benefit fraud investigators. Unfortunately now you're not allowed to investigate allegations as such due to the human rights acts and new legislation relating to surveillance procedures. My day would often have started at 2 or 3 am. Other times end at the same time. Cold wet windy days sat in a car with no engine running! Not any more thankfully, but somebody still has too do the job. For the record, when i left my salary was £11,297.00, and no overtime. Yes we qualified for "time off in lieu", but you could only carry so much time forward out of every four week period. Five years later i am fortunate enough to have considerably increased on my earnings for what is substantially an easier "job". Yes i still have stresses, but i am lucky to now deal with the predominantly politer side of the population.

  6. quote: Is "Political correctness" a necessary move to ensure that discriminatory attitudes are minimised and eventually banished to the past. IMO: Political Correctness does in most instances, only appear to relate to Verbal/lingual matters, such as already mentioned - BLACKboard, Baa Baa BLACK sheep etc, GAY, and so on. It is my understanding that (for example), a person of African origin with non white skin would rather be called black than coloured. Who is offended by the descriptive term BLACK? Homosexuals to my knowledge, have an annual "get together" under the banner GAY pride. Who is offended by the term GAY? It appears to me that in the majority of cases, the persons that these and other terms refer to don't actually care? PCism (?) appears to have got it all wrong anyway. If by being "PC" it should be said that we are against discrimination than yes I am for it. Age, sex, orientation, race, disability etc etc should not not deprive anybody of an equal chance. By using "PC" to change the literary expression of our language, the politicians are actually creating more discrimination and racial intollerance. As already mentioned, FACT should be allowed to continue and cannot be in anyway considered "Not PC". It maybe offensive to some people, but then again there is a phrase rarely used nowadays.................... The truth hurts. If anybody has the ability to review witness statements tendered as evidence in courts of law and consigned to record, the beauty of our language (and abuse of!)is there for all to see. Commonly considered terms of offense are used every day by people of all origins and backgrounds. The thing about these statements is that they are all contemporaneus(sp.)
  7. I've been letting this one run before posting any reply. I have to say, I am astounded by the number of posts Early last week Newt posted a 'joke' regarding the diary of Anne Frank. One of my own posts on that thread was regarding the positive way humour can bring things to mind. Lest we forget etc, etc. We are now (approximately) half way through lent. The shops are stacked with eggs, and Easter breaks are being planned. How many people even considered the reason for having Easter? There is a very special story about forgiveness and re-birth etc etc. In these very troubled times, maybe more thought should be given to forgiving and making a fresh start. My source for this 'joke' was the father of a personal friend who also happens to be a Methodist Minister.. He was pondering his 1st lent surmon and was asking himself if anybody remembers the true meaning of Easter. Don't touch my Easter Egss, I'll be back on Sunday. It was to be his opening gambit....... Before I get inudated with replies regarding the hijacking of pagan festivals etc, no Easter doesn't have a 'date', yes it is celebrated on a date that is something to do with the moon and stars and alignment and equinoxes etc, but it is a time that the christian church is able to use to remember one of its most significant moments. Forgiveness. Now, all kiss and make up....
  8. What did Jesus say to the Apostles, while the Romans were nailing him to the cross? . . . . . . . . . . . . Don't touch my Easter Eggs. I'll be back on Sunday.
  9. Just goes to show how differently men and women look at things... HER DIARY Saturday night I thought he was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a bar to have a drink. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment. Conversation wasn't flowing so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed but he kept quiet and absent. I asked him what was wrong he said nothing. I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said it had nothing to do with me and not to worry. On the way home I told him that I loved him, he simply smiled and kept driving. I can't explain his behaviour; I don't know why he didn't say I love you too. When we got home I felt as if I had lost him, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there and watched TV He seemed distant and absent. Finally I decided to go to bed. About 10 minutes later he came to bed and to my surprise he responded to my caress and we made love, but I still felt that he was distracted and his thoughts where somewhere else. I decided that I could not take it anymore so I decided to confront him with the situation but he had fallen asleep. I started crying and cried until I too fell asleep. I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster. HIS DIARY Lost 3 - 0 today. At least I got a s*ag.
  10. Listening to Talk Sport this am, there is a suggestion that some bloke called David Beckham (used to be a popular footballer in an english team, I can't remember him though)could be returning to England in the summer. Suggestion is that he could go to Chelski ('cos they have the money, and the continued Sven association), or Arsenal - the only club other than Man Utd that he could possibly be interested in due to the current level of success. Rumours only of course. As for the clash in the Champions league - you can't bet against Arsenal, no matter how much i would like to see Chelsea through. With a lump in my throught and choking sensation, I have to say i want Arsenal to win because i feel they stand a better chance of ultimately lifting the trophy. And that's good for English football.....
  11. Good result last night guys. Keeping the french, i mean english pride alive Arsenil & Chelski would be good semi, don't fancy it as a final though. Sorry, i just don't think Chelski have what it takes to match the Gunners. Real Madrid in the final? After today's events I wonder if they may need to play away from home in the next stage - could be influential...
  12. Graham Do you mean old 1st Div (Pre 92/93)? We were back in Europe as a country when the premier league started. May need more of a clue????? Blue/Red - Crystal Palace to me, but same manager returning 4 times? or is this the trick part, not 4 x manager, but perhaps player previously? Still doesn't fit with Palace......ummmmmm. Now you've got me thinking.
  13. quote: have englishmen/women like Churchill and (controversially) Thatcher? What's controversial about Thatcher? I think we should have another female PM. At keast she would give Europe what for and tell them to but out of our affairs (well once a month she would anyway ) In fact you could say we should have a female PM(T)? Sorry
  14. quote: Bruce Rioch ----- the man who brought Dennis Bergkamp to highbury --- thanks v.much Bruce! Wish he was still there..... (Bruce I mean, not Dennis). ...... I wonder if Dennis will take any penalties if they happen, in the semi final?
  15. Newt, your wealth of knowledge is fantastic. I thought it was just one of those 'things' (I can't remember the exact term) like the soldiers used to use during the war..... SWALK NORWICH and the many others i can't remember off the top of my head!
  16. Graham Is this in the same year, or throughout the history of the premiership? In 1996, following Keegan was Roy Evans at Liverpool in third place. So i suppose the answer is the same anyway! Incidentally, fourth place that year was Aston Villa, managed by Brian Little. Can anybody find a year when more than 3 English managers finished in the top 5? 5 that year was Arsenal with Scottish Manager Bruce Rioch.
  17. Come on awaaar, If you do come a cropper tonight, then the fans should boycott the rest of the season. 3 away goals? you know the song, . . . . . . . . . .1 nil, to the ar** and all
  18. quote: TANSTAAFL Newt   Is this the American version of TINSTAAFR?
  19. Ignore me! I've just found the answer further down......
  20. Sorry for this, but i am a user not a doer.... If i post a link into a thread, how do i rename it to make it shorter?
  21. I think there is a slight irony here. Hand on heart, how many people awoke this morning and even considered the attrocities referred to? Hand on heart, when was the last time anybody thought of those times, and the indescribeable suffering that the Jews and many others faced? Humour does have it's place. I personally do not get offended by such things. I use it as a tool of rememberance.
  22. Extra info: It was listed in the top 5 most sought at no. 5. If it moves you can find it under searching company, Scotland. Artist is Paul Mounsey, title North.

Sound card not working at the mo, so i can't tell if its the same one!
  24. May i use this publically accessible forum to sincerely wish Messrs Wenger and team all the best for tonights crucial clash. As a football fan i would truly be delighted if they could succeed in bringing the trophy home to England. . . . . . . As a Man Utd fan, well.............
