  3. in answer to your question I haved used greased weasel for years and its never let me down I generally use an albright but will use a uni if I have to tie on a new leader on the beach as its alot easier with cold hands.
  4. standard procedure would be for a right handed fisherman: reel under the rod wind with the left hand. reel over the rod wind with the right hand . most reel under ie. fixed spolls are ambidextrous having the ability to switch the handel from one side to the other. Over the rod ie multipliers are designated by the winding hand , which would normally be if your right handed then you wind with the right. Of course there are always freaks of nature who do it a**e about face.
  5. Oban is like fishing at the sealife centre, where they stick their noses out of the water, waiting to be stroked (or so I've been told ). Not jealous in the slightest Well done.
  6. Will be interesting to see what happens to this water.used to fish a club water which was notoriously hard but had a small head of very large tench a few large perch a head of roach/rudd and after that a general mix of fish, however the match based commitee decided one year to stock it with a few thousand pasties and started using it as a match lake(this was back in the late eigties, long before "commercial" waters). It was almost comical the shoal of carp would basically circle the water, you would get afew fish and then would the bloke at the next peg and so on round the lake. This happened for about a season then slowly over the next few years fewer and fewer were caught.Eventually it returned to its previous state and now is pretty much the way it used to be with the odd decent carp added into the mix. Basically don't panic this lake will probaly return to its former self unless asustained stocking program is put in place.
  7. Its called a pulley rig and here's a decentpicture/explanation http://www.nesa.co.uk/Rig-Section/The_Pulley_Rig.html
  8. Well what can I say without mister B's and snatchers contributions can't see anywhere managing to survive. reckon i could run a business based on either one as my sole customer. good luck to her, hope the clah doesn't get ideas of grandeure when it realises the fortune to be made by excluding the locals.
  9. Either that or he has just S**t himself
  10. Think we might take the wee caravan again.
  11. Indeed like wise will probably make it back up in October.
  12. Been working fitting out a boat for a friend at a marina in Caversham, since December and the marina has been full of fry.Have had quite a bit of fun using bread to entice the smaller fish into a bit of a feeding frenzy and then waiting to see the pike and perch smash into them(bigest pike has probably been just into double figures, but seen pseveral perch around the 3lb mark. this week has seen amarked change though all the fry have moved out of themarina but spawning has started with a bang was walking back to the boat yesterday and saw a shoal of about 20 chub obviously in a frisky mood at least 10 of the fish would go 5lb plus in their prime. this was the first time I have seen chub mating and was particularly surprised as i always thought they spawned in gravley runs, whereas this was the margins of a virtually stillwater marina(all be it with open access to the Thames. Then later on my mate was walking his dog around one of the lakes called me over to witness at least the same number of carp spawning in the margins of one of the surrounding lakes, there were several doubles amonst the shoal andprobably 3 of the fish were twenty plus, they were so pre-occupied with their conjugal activities that we were able to get within a few feet of them. Made you really wish it wasn't the close season but just watching them was more than interesting in its own right(so much so that we managed to waste an hours work time acting as voyeurs). will try and get some pictures tomorrow.
  13. Yeah and I know where he lives so you can send your Dad up to bash him.
  14. Chilli sauce? English mustard? Easter weekend in a tent with a roll of gaffer tape, I'm begining to get seriously worried about you two. Still some cracking fish there. All the best Gareth
  15. thats two cracking fish as Colin said it could be nothing or one or two decent fish.
  16. basically he has nicked the boat, you don't know who his nearest and dearest are, the ones who have reported him missing(they may be in colusion). surely if he had been reported as a missing person it wouldn't have taken sherlock holmes to work out his possible routes and maximum distance travelled and found the boat. at the end of the day my theory is falsely obtained credit card and stolen boat. I am currently fitting out a boat for a friend and the marina notice board is full of stolen boat notices. just think we've all been had on this one.
  17. the easiets identifier is that turbot are scaleless on their eye side whereas brill have tiny scale therefore if rubbed from tail to head a brill will be rough whereas a turbot will be smooth apart from the nodules.
