  1. How mad is that? Talk about flying fish, imagine the haul if they'd used a strobe light!!!
  2. I have to be in the mood but often find rig making a very satisfying way of passing some of the cold winter evenings. I generally go for the common simple rigs, they work for me so what's the point in constructing complicated rigs. A spool of Kryston Merlin, Kryston Snakebite, mono, a few hooks and various rig tubing, shrink tubing etc and away you go. You also get a great sense of satisfaction catching a good fish on a rig constructed by yourself.

    Sharks

Anyone watching Shark Bites - Fact and Fiction. Some fascinating footage and interesting content exploding some of the myths surrounding sharks.
  4. Thanks for the link Stewart, some fascinating reading on there. Well written and very interesting.
  5. Bill, if the keyboard is absolutely filthy bin it! You can pick up a sparkly clean brand new one for a few quid these days. In future make sure your hands are clean before tapping away on it. My problem is allowing the kids to use the PC. They've been told countless times not to eat at the pc but I may as well talk to the wall. Biscuit crumbs wedged between the keys, sticky finger marks, chocolate smudges, all part and parcel of letting them use it. Keyboards are like toasters, there's always the odd few crumbs that seem impossible to remove without actually dismantling the damned thing.
  6. I know many canals are dismissed as venues for "bit bashing". Stewarts photo bears witness that this is not necessarily so, a beautiful specimen perch Stewart, well done. What method did you use to catch it? Many of the countries canals contain some excellent specimens of fish and tend to be ignored in favour of the commercials. I know many people who have mounted campaigns on their local cut and reaped the rewards from the time they have put in. Double figure carp, specimen chub, roach and perch, all taken a few miles from their houses. A lot of the canal systems run through industrial and built up areas. Could this be the reason many neglect them as places to fish? Some anglers look for peace and quiet as part of the enjoyment, I have to agree, this aspect is often not found along many of the stretches of canals, add to that the threat of yobs who haunt the inner city stretches and you may understand why many are loathe to fish the canals.

    Ea Website.

I would like to see features explaining the work they are doing regionally to improve the waters and environment. It would be good to see the fruits of the bailiffs labours also ie details of their license checking blitzes and what fines were given out to non license holding "so called" anglers. Occasionally I receive their magazine through the post (very occasionally) though I tend to pick them up from the local tackle shop. As a government based body I have to say the magazine is quite informative and in no way dull and uninteresting. Why aren't some of the features seen in the magazine placed on their site too. I don't dispute the site is a good source of information, the regional where to fish section however has to be downloaded which takes several minutes. I don't know why it cannot be readily accessible (maybe bandwidth?)
  8. What are your opinions of the Environment Agencies website. I've just had a browse and to be honest found the Fishing section a bit dull. There's a bit of information contained within but a lot of it involves downloads. I think it needs a rethink and a bit of an overhaul. Any thoughts?
  9. I considered going to one localy recently but a few people put me off the idea saying there wasn't anything worth buying, generally cheap obsolete tat for sale. I have since heard that some genuine bargains are there for the taking, although not top of the range tackle and names. May be worth a visit although I'd go early to grab the bargains and avoid the footy congestion.
  10. It's a good incetive I suppose but surely there will be those who give up, take the money then restart. What do the council do then? Send out the smoke police to see if they can catch transgressors!!!
  11. I would assume a pop up rig be best placed for tails down feeding and a nailed down rig such as a method rig be best employed with a tail up feeding pattern. Quite simply it's a matter of how the fish are feeding on the day which dictates what rig you choose. Venue conditions also enter into the equation, is the bottom silty? weedy? gravel? You see, it all depends on the venue. A gravel bottom swim may well produce the goods with either rig, a weedy or silty rig would probably dictate the use of a pop up or critically balanced bait. I'm no expert rig technician but these are the prominent points that spring to my mind.
  12. I scored 3. Definitely not nerdy, you are probably cool. How true!!!
  13. I'm glad you have Newt. I was just a bit concerned you'd bought a shed load of videos you couldn't watch. Happy viewing!
  14. I can wholeheartedly sympathse with anyone struck down with the dreaded man flu. A few weeks ago I was similarly afflicted and believe me, boy did I suffer. Felt like death for around 4 days, seemed to recover on te 5th day then it came back with a vengeance the day after. Believe me, it takes some shifting. You don't feel like doing anything but sit feeling sorry for yourself and trying to prise sympathy from the missus (not much received unfortunately) why don't they understand our pain and suffering?

    Winter Chub

A fantastic report rabbit, made good reading. Winter chubbing is something I've been meaning to do for some time but as usual, never get round to doing it. I have to say though, reading your report and the subsequent posts has given me the impetus I need to have a go. Thanks fellas, I'm going to have to give it a go.
  16. Strange one, I think a cormorant would have made slashes in the body with it's beak. With the amount of damage done to the flesh on the first photo I cannot see it being a cormorant, there is too much flesh removed. The fish would have had to be captive for some time for a cormorant to inflict such damage. Could be an otter or even mink?
  17. I'll be interested to see what books you have to offer Dave. Missed out big time with the vids! Hopefully I'll be quicker next time! Do Brit videos work in the US of A?

    Nice One.

Taken from another thread mate, hope it explains it for you. Yesterday, 10:19 AM Post #1 Administrator Group: Admin Posts: 10,491 Joined: 19-January 00 From: Grundisburgh, Suffolk Member No.: 2 There has been a definite rise in interest in photography shown recently, so this forum has been created. Steve Randles has offered to help moderate it - by moderate, I see most of his role as that of just making sure it's tidy. Photography should, really, be quite a friendly topic I've just got to work out how to adjust the settings first! I'll get all the other topics moved over from non-fishing when I get a moment. If it gets popular, we'll look at breaking it down into sub-forums, but this wouldn't be for a few months yet. At them moment, let's get it started by keeping everything together. Enjoy. -------------------- Want to help us out and get more from Anglers' Net?: Become a subscriber... Click Here
  19. I've seen lots of OBVIOUS traders with very few posts selling items on the forum. One quick look at their profile tells all. ******** has made so many posts 100% in For sale/auction wanted section. I say give a bit back before taking all the time. Get a few posts rattled off before they are allowed to offload their gear on here. Saying that, most tackle dealers still charge an average price for their goods, not many bargains really.
  20. To be honest Steve, it looks like it was pure fluke. A great tale and a fantastic picture to back up the story. Well done sir!
  21. I've seen the pictures today whilst out and about Chrimbo shopping with the wife. The pictures and story are featured in "Ripley's Believe it or not" book.
  22. If he's been up all night with the parrot I bet he's still in the land of nod or paying through the nose at the vets!
  23. Amen to that Josh. It beats the hell out of me why some people openly seem to brag about the fact that they don't have a licence.
  24. I wondered the same Chris ! Looks like a website in its infancy, I reckon he should re promote it when he gets something to look at, there's nowt on it! The best site I've found for fishing in Yorkshire is this one The real Yorkshirefishing A very, very similar name, but this one has something on it.
  25. My brother has just been having a clear out in his garage and came across an old split cane rod. He knew it wasn't his so rang me, turns out it's mine. It was the first rod I ever owned as a young lad. It's an 11.5 ft split cane match rod made by Poolson of Redditch. Amazing really, it must be over 30 years since I had it in my hands and by todays standards feels very heavy! Has anyone heard of this make? Does anyone know anything about them? Is it just a cheap rod or have I been reaquainted with an old treasure?
