  1. I am having nightmare with Nero 6 which came with my now 2 year old PC. It's always been a bit ropey, but it usually works fine once I get an option open. However now I cannot get it to burn DVD +R dual layer discs which have a write speed of 2.4x. My drive supports tis (apparently) but Nero only gives me the option to burn at 8x, 6x or 4x. I have spent days corresponding with Nero support and am slowly getting nowhere, as well as going round in circles. So what other CD and DVD burning software is out there, easy to use and of course works please?
  2. I completely gave up the a 20+ a day cigarette habit in 1990 after 10 years of smoking. I had a cardiac event in 2006 (not related to my smoking years ago I am told) and had a single stent fitted. I cycle three times a week, although round here it's not very safe on the roads and I currently go horse riding weekly which is also pretty demanding (and expensive). I modified my diet slightly from September 2006, and although not massively overweight at 17 stone (I'm 6' 4"), I am now under 16 stone.
  3. There's one in this pile of pictures, if your interested. Search on Trevalla, it's about 4 tenths of the way down.
  4. I need to check the source of this again, but I am pretty certain that when there has been a measles outbreak in the UK or Europe, 40% of those who contract it had the MMR vaccination. I should also add that the second dose is not a booster as is often claimed. It is given simply because of a high failure rate of the vaccine.
  5. No but just as equally the medical profession is by no means infallible. It is not just vaccinations (which are not properly understood anyway) I am talking about, there is lots of other examples where the doctors may suggest or recommend a treatment that an informed parent may quite rightfully choose to decline on behalf of their child. In fact other doctors may have a different opinions anyway. How can we legislate for all this? Indeed should we? See here.
  6. If you haven't backed up your data, then this must be your priority. If you cannot easily repair your OS, you may well be able to get your data back by either booting up from a CD or mounting your hard drive into another working system and then copying the files. Booting from a CD is probably harder approach because you need to find a way to get the data off the drive with the duff OS. I am not sure if you'll have any security issues if you mount the drive in another PC, but if your data is important, you can probably finds a professional who will do it for a fee.
  7. Good clips. Watched several!
  8. I quite agree that children have rights over the wants of their parents. However where and how do you draw the line and how do we decide who is right when it comes to certain types of treatment? If a doctor wants to give your child a certain kind of treatment or vaccination and you not want to, when are you right and when are they right? What happens if your decision results in harm coming to the child which may have been prevented by the treatment or vaccination that you withheld in good faith.
  9. Wasn't the current US formed relatively recently by violating all those principles and outing the original native population?
  10. Which studies were those then?
  11. Thanks Chris, that's very generous and sounds great. I'll send you a PM.
  12. I don't really have an opinion either way yet, but I was intrigued about claiming a record. Presumably it's not the rod caught record though? We don't believe fish feel pain, so the method of killing doesn't really matter, does it?
  13. Me to. Went through pretty quick and seems fine.
  14. It will be relatively static pages, probably with a message board or mini forum. It will have the ability to peddle and sell a few e-books, and some real books.
  15. If they are not going to be eaten and they are not vermin, then it does seem pointless and unfair to kill them deliberately.
  16. Thanks both! I'll look into these and let you know what I use.
  17. Shooting carp with bows and arrows in the US. In this case it was 92 lbs and the captor is considering claiming a world record 'catch'!
  18. I have got to make a web-site for the missus! Now I've worked in computing for 20 years, but building web sites has never been my field (currently I work with multi Terabyte Data warehouses). What is the easiest and simplest way for me to build a site? I already have the domain names and a hosting service with 1and1, so what website building tools should I use and once built, how can I improve search hit rates? Thanks
  19. This certainly appears to be a ludicrous and extremely unjust ruling. Now if the offender had been found to have a mental age of say 11 or 12, or so, and the judge had explained this, then it might be understandable, although clearly in that case society still needs to be protected. However in this case Dixon was simply described as immature! I hope the parents of this young girl are able to appeal the sentence given and the judge is disbarred. (Personally I think the judge should locked up!)
  20. I know we've discussed this before, but I came across this featured on yahoo today
  21. I have one of the large ones and one of the medium ones that I bought directly from Alan. I have to admit though that I never mastered how to use them and would appreciate being re-instructed. I managed on several occasions to cut a hook (size 6 or 8) in two with medium one.
  22. Do they do any other colours? So far I've only found blue with yellow bits here and there! Plain olive green would do me nicely!
  23. I re-read Catcher in the Rye recently and although it's OK, it is rather lightweight. I try to read one book at a time, be it a novel or non fiction. Currently I'm reading Tescopoly and I just finished White Teeth by Zadie Smith. Last year I read a lot of Iain Banks and Iain M Banks (same chap - second name is used in his Science Fiction offerings).
