  1. Well, this is a claimed 45lb and must be over 5ft long. I`m missing something, aren`t I ????? You scamps.
  2. Sorry Brian, I`ve only read it quickly, but some of the posts stop short of outright condemnation so I thought it a question worth asking.
  3. Ayes and Noes, let`s boil this down, get back to the black and white of it........ All those who defend what this guy allegedly did, post `Aye` Others say `No`. No
  4. That can`t be right? I`ve never caught one, but 82lb at only 3ft long............it`d have to resemble a barrel ?!
  5. An outrage. Those bloody dealers get everywhere Seriously, folks - this fish-in looks an absolute blast. Might there be a place next year for a shy Suffolk lad on his best behaviour ? It is my birhday weekend......
  6. A squid, or an octopus ?
  7. Re: the lead shot - in this wacky country of ours, it wouldn`t surprise me even a tiny bit that it was legal to sell them, but not to use them.
  8. Haven`t fished for pike in many years, my biggest weighed fish was 12lb 6oz from the Wensum (on sweetcorn, and hooked in the scissors). As for unweighed specimens, years ago I had a fish that took the 12lb Little Samsons (one for the teenagers there!) straight down to the stop, and took me fifteen minutes to land on 10lb line. Suspect that may have been considerably bigger than a twelve.
  9. My PB bream was a hard-fighting weirpool slab of 9lb 4oz. I can`t get my head around a fish of twice that size !!
  10. Does that mean that if you kept a crucian`s skin damp you could keep it on your mantelpiece ?
  11. But that wasn`t the original question was it ? I usually hook the worm once, anywhere, and slide it up the line. Then nip on a BB about three inches above the hook. Slide the worm back down to the shot, then hook it again. Then nip off both ends of the worm so that it can`t hide. For chub, one worm on hooks 10 or 8, or two worms on a 6 or 4. Lovely.
  12. Interesting what you say there about returning used lobs to your stock - I`d always assumed that having been punctured, they`d poison their fellow inmates. My preferred method for keeping lobs is in a sealed bucket in wet, shredded newspaper. They seem to last well - six or eight weeks isn`t unusual. They`ll happily eat their way through the newspaper, as can be seen by their droppings. I check them every couple of days and return any poorly looking worms to the garden. I occasionally treat them to half a dry weetabix.............but only if they`ve been good
  13. The old rod licences used to permit "fishing with one rod and two hooks". Can`t lay my hands on mine at present, so dunno whether it still does.
  14. As a child I kept sticklebacks, one 4" gudgeon and one 4" tench in an 18 x 12 x 12" non-aerated indoor tank, with a weekly water change and so-called "oxygen tablets". All of the sticklebacks except one died fairly quickly, the rest lived eighteen months or so.
  15. quote: I might start informing them every time I see a dead rabbit in the road. Front page stuff for the Star of course.
  16. Has anyone called http://images.google.com/images?q=tbn:8sFFwGrwLMgJ:www.solarnavigator.net/images/paul_hogan_as_michael_j_crocodile_dundee.jpg ?? What a load of old......
  17. A 7lb 10oz chub, caught by another angler on the lawn at Aldermaston a few years back. Man, that was an awesome fish........I`ve had a dozen over five, but that seemed from a different planet. My own ? The two roach and an eel caught on my very first trip, aged eight. ## wipes away tear ##
  18. They probably bought their nets from one of the links on the advertising banner atop noah`s "sandeel" thread
  19. It might salve our consciences to return a 5lb bass but in reality, no commercial fisherman would do such a thing, even if he caught fifty similar fish that day. The impact of anglers on sea fishing stocks could, I imagine, be described as negligible at best. Especially if my own catches are anything to go by......
  20. Let`s say between Wells-next-the-sea and West Mersea. Not a big fan of piers. Keen to get the boy (12-y-o) involved, so need results. Bass always a bonus...... Advice please re state of tides and venues. Favour fairly light gear (6-8lb b.s and light/ med.spinning rod). Thanks in advance.
