What exactly is a 'poor cod' ? Do we know it as something else down here ?

I'm looking at various US websites for an Abu 6601C4 (typically around $90 over there) Now, I thought all Abu's were Swedish made - seems these come from China ! Anyone know if they're any good ?? Here

I'm using 26lb Shimano Antares braid on a 5601 for beach and boat bass fishing. Aside from the occasional wind knot, it's lovely stuff - lack of stretch means fantastic bite indication !

Offer him £50 the lot Abu 1500 Ambassadeur went for about £70 on eBay recently, iirc.

Imagine how much better you'd feel cradling that fish until it was strong enough to swim away. There's your reward, right there. You'd have the pictures, maybe the witnesses, and always the memories. And anyone who spends £££hundreds on bait, gear or charters but goes fishing because their fridge is empty is surely a madman

Are they any good ? I'm looking for a smallish (5000 sized) reel. The cheaper the better, but don't want something that'll fall apart after a few sessions. It'll be filled with braid (recommendations welcome as to the best brand ) and used for bass fishing with bait and/or lures from shore or boat. (I am a fan of using quite light gear). I await your reviews. Thanks in advance.

Lobworm will be fine, fished hard on the bottom I'd say. They can live for quite some time underwater, so snip both ends off to stop it burrowing itself away, this will also release some welcome scent

Handled one of these today, and quite fancy it for light sea work with a small multiplier, but the ring spacing isn't right. I'd be using it for schoolies in the summer with fairly light line, with bait and lures, shore and occasional boat use. It's just been discontinued, and I was offered it at a very fair price - but I resisted because of the rings. Anyone know if the blank is available to buy ?

Yup ! Years ago I fished Tannery Lake at Wortham (?), (maybe Worthing?) Norfolk, and bagged up on pound-plus roach. It`s about 3/4 acre max, and the Blackwater runs alongside. Half-a-dozen casts into the tiny Blackwater weirpool yielded two rainbows over 3lb on lobworm. The first of which convinced me I was into my PB chub - until the air display started Try John Wilson`s "Where to fish in Norfolk and Suffolk", as no doubt many of these places will have changed hands, with fishing no longer available (Lenwade Mill )

Last time I fished there, the schoolies wanted rag to the exclusion of every other bait.

A swallow intercepted my waggler-fished single maggot in mid-air and was landed and safely returned. A coot, on floatfished bread in six feet of water, again landed and returned. And from the beach I watched a mate convinced he was into a double-figure Cod, only to land a fisherman`s a%*#hole attached to a bloody huge stone

Thing is, I never bend fishery rules, let alone bylaws. Honestly. Hell, I don`t even much like fishing in the old close season if truth be told. Much as I`d love to catch a 2lb plus roach - and I`ve been so close - if I managed a 3-pounder on a banned bait or method in the `close season`, then the inner struggle wouldn`t be worth it for me - it wouldn`t count. That`s why despite fishing the first night almost every 16th, I`ll never cast in `til midnight, for fear of a PB that wouldn`t count. I realise that my values are somewhat old-fashioned, but I don`t care. I know that I`m hopelessly out of step on the close season issue and that it`s legal now, but..............well, you get the picture. It`s no good arguing Oh, and rules-wise - "bending" almost always means "breaking". And for the record, I hope Mr. Williams (and anyone else) gets an [/i]enormous fine.
