  1. Well done on the three you caught Crayers! Were they a decent size? The three incidents you mention, re your braid & hook snapping all seem strange. I once had a hook straighten out, but I've never had one snap. Since I upgraded to the more specialist Carp hooks I've never had a problem (although I've also read on here that having a hook straighten is better than a break off) I used to lose all too many fish because of my dodgy knot tying - but the likes of Dazler & Costers put me right on that & now I can re-locate the Islands  Is the water you were fishing very snaggy or got a stony bottom? Also, I've been told that swan mussels can nick your bait & hook leaving you with just a bit of your hooklink when you reel in. At least you caught though geezer! Happy Days
  2. It's too late to phone you now Daz, but in case you look in on here - NO - I can't make it tomorrow. My third of the Witches of Eastwick is off work & I've promised I'll help her practice some new spells. demon Good luck though matey & let me know how you get on.
  3. Damn shame they can't all do that!
  4. I'll be right over! Hang on though, did you actually mean you're desperate for a Cormorant?? Bugger, I do feel stupid now!! EDITED TO SAY - THAT IS A STUNNING PHOTO GILLIES!! [ 27. March 2005, 10:31 PM: Message edited by: rabster ]
  5. How many times have you had your licence checked? For me, it's only once, (at Wyreside, Dolphinholme)when these two guys came & asked to see my licence, I was so surprised at first I wasn't sure what they were on about. Is the policing of it such, that it almost comes down to conscience whether you buy one or not? [ 27. March 2005, 10:53 PM: Message edited by: rabster ]
  6. Am I allowed to say - I wonder if that Cormorant fancies a Shag???
  7. Graham, you need to use your alarms in combination with some sort of bite indicator, which will put the line under sufficient tension for it to sit correctly on the roller of the alarm. I found a review on night fishing on here that covers the fundamentals of how to use a bite alarm. The whole article is HERE But I’ve also copied below the part relating to bite alarm set up. quote: Bite alarms start from a standard roller/magnets type right up to a digital unit with a remote receiver. Basic Bite alarms are in the position of a front rod rest with the mainline running over a roller with magnets and a Read Switch. Line is tensioned over the roller by either a ‘bobbin’/‘dangler’ or a ‘Swinger’, which also acts as a visual indicator. Therefore if a fish picks up the bait and takes line (away from the rod) the indicator will rise and the alarm will sound. If the fish picks up the bait and moves towards the rod the indicator will lower, taking up the slack mainline, whilst sounding the alarm. A fish taking line is known as a ‘Run’, as fish moving towards the rod making the indicator to lower is known as a ‘Drop back’. and a diagram of the set up: - quote: A) Rod. ( Bite Alarm. © Indicator rising as line is taken showing a ‘Running’ indication with Bite Alarm sounding. (D) Normal or Static position of Indicator. (E) Indicator dropping as slack line is taken up showing ‘Drop Back’ indication with Bite Alarm sounding. (F) Line Clip trapping line if using the open Bail Arm method. Good luck & I hope you soon hear your alarms screeching away when you get a take. It always makes me jump out of my skin when the darn things go off.
  8. It's quiet on here tonight guys'n'gals. Anyhow, how píssed off will this carp be, being caught by this geezer!! (Apologies if it's someone who posts on here, it's not you is it Costers??) Evening All!!
  9. No surprise there then, as you well know, seconds is my favourite meal! Have to say though, whilst I'm not sure about his fishing skills , that man Dazler can certainly cook!!
  10. Dazler, Please tell me that, when I've been to yours for a meal, you didn't use any of the above recipes? I mean, come on, "1oz Pre-Digested Fish Meal" That's not nice!
  11. That sounds a lot worse than a pat on the back! Colby, I love the cap story!
  12. Nice link Newt. I've just e-mailed that Julio Sanchez fella to tell him some of his problems could be over - we're sending Dazler round to get rid of . . . . . the ducks for him! (Sorry Daz)

  14. On the basis that I like my food, I think I would go for Kate Moss, Lena Zavaroni & Karen Carpenter.
  15. I can't help you mate, I've never made any, I just buy the cheapest ones on offer in the shop - BUT - what I can do is put your post back to the top of the board in the hope someone more clued up can answer you. Also, a few questions What's the fishing like in Romania? What do you normally fish for?? & as this is a Carp section - How big do the carp get? & are they mainly commons or mirrors? Any info would be very interesting. Cheers
  16. I've got a few & they all seem to involve Costers off here, but this is my favourite. We were fishing a small lake/big pond?? & Costers was bagging up, on float fished paste if I remember correctly. I was struggling & he was getting on my nerves when he kept on saying he'd got another one & to rub it in he even kept on asking me to do net duties. Anyhow, I'm sat wondering when it's going to be my turn when I hear him say he's in again, "Great" says I, he then says he could do with some help, so I'm thinking "here we go again" & tell him to hang on, I'm busy - Costers says "I REALLY NEED SOME HELP!!!" I look round to see his brolly had collapsed on top of him & all you could see of old Costers was his arm sticking out from under his brolly whilst he's trying to play a fish! At 1st I thought he was just showing off & considered getting in my car & leaving - But no, I ran to his rescue & saved the day! AGAIN!!!! I'll never forget the image of Costers arm stuck out of a collapsed brolly playing a fish though, 'twas very funny Anyone else got any??
  17. A pop at Costers?? I'm sure I don't know what you're referring to.
  18. Just out of interest, do they come with an igniter fitted in case you forget your matches?
  19. You've lost me there Jo/Daz/Jo??? Anyhow - it surely can't only be me? What's going on with the extremely poor sound quality on that Matt Hayes show???
  20. It would seem not! So not only the boat naming that's been Canard this weekend.
  21. Me too Daz, forgot to put my factor 30 on. Can I add a bad back to my sunburn? I've been walking like Roddy MacDowell out of Planet of the Apes all day today I can only put it down to the cool breeze on my back for most of the day, or could it have been from playing all those fish!
  22. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this? For me, whenever this show comes on Home & Leisure, the volume seems very muffled. After turning it up a few notches I'll be sat there still straining to hear it when all of a sudden the show switches to a different report & I've got it blasting across my lounge. Is it just my age & dodgy hearing? Or has anyone else noticed this strange phenomena???
  23. Seem to be experiencing the total opposite on my club lake over the last couple of years. Used to float fish maggot & to start with catch silverfish but then the carp would move in. Now, the silverfish just keep on coming, which is great if that's what you're targetting. Also, I used to catch a fair few carp on ledgered, popped up floating trout pellet, but for the last couple of years the pellet has been nibbled away at & is gone before a carp ever gets a look in. Just my observations, but there they are.
  24. One of the methods I favour (& I'm slightly píssed BTW, so do bear with me) is to wait for one of my mates to bait up a swim with one of these modern devices, then cast right to that very spot & claim I wasn't aiming there, but might aswell leave it so i don't disturb the swim - bingo! Sorry, what was the question??
