  1. Evening All. I'm thinking of purchasing one of these Which I've found at £60quid plus P&P, sounds like a bargain to me, but does anyone hereabouts know anything about them? Just to clarify, it's mainly just for use whilst day fishing, 6 am 'till 6pm sort of thing. I use a brolly at the moment but for one thing it's very heavy, but it also is not very practical when the wind blows - which seems to be all the time these days. Also it's difficult to keep all my gear dry under a brolly. Any observations would be greatly appreciated. (Hope I've stuck this in the right forum? It's not exactly session fishing I do, but I do predominantly target Carp & am hoping to hook up with some catty's this year) Ta.
  2. "A popup blocker may stop this working" That will be why matey - if you've got Google toolbar installed, along with it's pop-up blocker, you'll need to press the "ctrl" key to allow this sinister programme to work.
  3. Cheers Ferret. Weirdest thing I've ever seen in my life (well, that's discounting when my next door neighbour was having a slash down the grid - dirty cow! Anyhow, for the 1st time ever when looking at such pictures, I've actually seen the 3D images. I'm with Keith Finn on No's 2 - 5, No 6 i reckon is more of a top view of a volcano than a tube, but I'm also in agreement with Keith re. No 1. i can't make it out. What is it - anyone??? Spooky!
  4. There's always this one ajp! Go on, press it, I dare you! A popup blocker may stop this working. Oh, & Alt & F4 makes all things well in the world.
  5. That's a cracking picture LeicesterCarl. Your daughter looks Proud as Punch to have landed such a specimen, well done to her. One of my own favourite Angling pictures is my daughter in her early teens, posing holding a carp. I'd actually caught it, but I was made up when she agreed to pose with it as she won't even touch worms or maggots! Anyhow - with regard to your daughters quarry, I don't think it's a chub due to the size of the mouth & laterally it doesn't look broad enough. For my money it's either a Rudd or a hybrid. Well done anyhow.
  6. Cheers Squire. I'll be having a peruse of the net this weekend & placing my order. Thanks very much to all for their advice. At the moment I'm definately leaning towards the Shimano's - but then again the Diawa's sound good & there's always that Maver - Oh shoot - I just can't decide! I'll let you know how, whatever reel I go for, performs.
  7. Great Scott! I think I've got it!! Cheers Elton. In case anyone is interested - the piccy in my avatar is a pal of mine playing a carp. i took the piccy & love it because of the rainbow(s) in the background - you can only see one of 'em at this scale, but trust me, I'm a Doctor, there are two of 'em! 8. Thanks for all of your replies/advice. My initial thoughts were certainly that Shimano's are going to be the better option, but there's some good feedback here re. the Diawa's & even the Maver reel I'd originally favoured. So, now I'm in a state of confusion - i still want to tell the "Shimano Twin" pals of mine that their reels are so 10 years ago & I've got something better, but that would not appear to be correct. The thing that seduced me about the Maver was all them ball-bearings, it's got loads of 'em. Do the No. of ball bearings have a big effect on the smoothness of a reels operation? Or is it more down to overall build quality? Ultimately, I reckon if Maver say they'll chuck in a free bag of ball bearings, they've got me hooked!
  9. Here's someone else who didn't listen closely enough. Sorry, you have to read the small print on this one.
  10. Cheers Elton. My apologies for having a moan on the sticky thread at the top. I'll e-mail you the piccy I sent to Gray.
  11. Thanks for the feedback everyone. I've not had a chance to check out the link Steve Burke has provided as i'm literally off out of the door for a days fishing - meeting up with the Shimano fans - looks like they were right all along. Cheers
  12. I'm in the market for a new baitrunner/freespool type reel. The water I do 90% of my fishing on is about 4 acres, with a number of islands, so no huge casts are required. So, I'm looking for a reel that feels nice, with a smooth clutch & that can also cope with fish to 25lbs plus (not as the norm - but there are some in there) My fishing pals can't see any further than Shimano, so much so that I'd quite like to try a different brand. I've got my eye on one of these, which I can pick up for about £60.00 Which is a Maver Tica Sportera Hit 'n' Run. Has anyone had any experience of using one of these reels? Or can anyone recommend anything else? Cheers.
  13. My best fish on my Avon rod was a 20lb Common. I was ledgering when a number of good sized carp appeared right in front on me, feeding off the top. I chucked in some bread to keep 'em interested whilst I unclipped my ledger & put a controller on, within minutes of the carp appearing in my swim I was playing what was probably the pick of the bunch on a size 12 hook & 5lb line. After a splendid fight I landed the aforementioned common. I've got a piccy, I'll have to work out how to upload it.
  14. Well it's getting on two months since I e-mailed the picture I would like to use as my avatar. Since then I've p1ssed two people off by selecting their personal avatar, whilst waiting for my one to be made available. I reckon they were quite right to be annoyed, their uploaded image shouldn't even be available as an option to others. I know it's trivial, but I find it a tad strange that such a big site as this has problems with letting new users get their choice of avatar up & running. I know it can cause problems with bandwidth etc & maybe Anglers Net has a bigger issue with this because of the size of the site, but come on guys (& gals) get it sorted. Us newbies want to establish our own identities as well. Sorry to criticise, I know I don't post too much on here (mainly as I don't have too much expert advice to contribute) but I do spend a lot of time reading posts & gaining loads of useful info. I reckon there would be no stopping me with my own avatar!!
  15. What an excellent recovery your son has made, just goes to show how resilient kids can be - thank goodness!
  16. I'm knicking that one to use elsewhere
  17. So, what are you saying here carper99? I'd rather that you would spell it out than say quote: "most have been stripped of carp by people shall we say not from this country there was 15 of em with a barbecue for gods sake" Who's nicking 'em, asylum seekers? travellers?? garden centres??? the local chippy???? I'd rather not jump to conclusions. What I will say though is, I was fishing a small lake in France 3 or 4 years back, which contained some very big carp(allegedly), some fellow English fishermen across the lake from where i was fishing spent more time wading about in the water with chest waders on than fishing. They also seemed to spend a lot of time loading stuff into the back of their van & driving off. maybe the geezers you've seen are coming back to liberate the merchandise nabbed by the geezers I saw??
  18. How about these two?? Which are slightly out of date given Englands win V the Swiss this evening, but they still made me laugh. ------------------------------------------------- In a train carriage there was an Englishman, a Frenchman, a spectacular looking blonde and a frightfully awful looking fat lady. After several minutes of the trip the train happens to pass through a dark tunnel, and the unmistakable sound of a slap is heard. When they leave the tunnel, the Frenchman had a big red slap mark on his cheek. The blonde thought - "That French son of a bitch wanted to touch me and by mistake, he must have put his hand on the fat lady, who in turn must have slapped his face" The fat lady thought - "This dirty old Frenchman laid his hands on theblonde and she smacked him". The Frenchman thought - "That f---ing Englishman put his hand on that blonde and by mistake she slapped me". The Englishman thought - "I hope there's another tunnel soon so I can smack that French **** again !!" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why do Englishmen make better lovers than the French? because we stay on top for 90 minutes and still come second!
  19. BREAKING NEWS It's alleged that one of the French football players has failed a drugs and alcohol test yesterday (Monday). If this is confirmed as positive, under World Football Federation rules, paragraph 6 sub section 2e, France will forfeit the first group match 3-0. 20. Your post was moving to read fella. Fingers crossed & best wishes to you, your family & especially to your little boy.
  21. Well I'll not be buying that.
  22. Apologies if these have been posted before. A Zen master once said to me, "Do the opposite of whatever I tell you." So I didn't. ------------------------------ "A guy phones the local hospital and yells, 'You've gotta send help! My wife's in labour!' The nurse says, 'Calm down. Is this her first child?' He replies, 'No! This is her husband!' -------------------------------- When I was 14, I hoped that one day I would have a girlfriend. When I was 16 I got a girlfriend, but there was no passion. So I decided I needed a passionate girl with a zest for life. In University I dated a passionate girl, but she was too emotional. Everything was an emergency, she was a drama queen, cried all the time and threatened suicide. So I decided I needed a girl with stability. When I was 21 I found a very stable girl but she was boring. She was totally predictable and never got excited about anything. Life became so dull that I decided I needed a girl with some excitement. When I was 25 I found an exciting girl, but I couldn't keep up with her. She rushed from one thing to another, never settling on anything. She did mad impetuous things and flirted with everyone she met. She made me miserable as often as happy. She was great fun initially and very energetic, but directionless. So I decided to find a girl with some ambition. When I turned 28, I found a smart ambitious girl with her feet planted firmly on the ground and married her. She was so ambitious that she divorced me and took everything I owned. I am now 30 and am looking for a girl with big tits. -------------------------------- Doctor Bob had slept with one of his patients and had felt guilty all day long. No matter how much he tried to forget about it, he couldn't. The guilt and sense of betrayal was overwhelming. But every once in a while he'd hear that soothing voice, within himself, trying to reassure him: "Bob, don't worry about it. You aren't the first doctor to sleep with one of their patients, and you won't be the last. And besides, you're single. Let it go." But invariably another voice would bring him back to reality: "Bob, you're a vet."
  23. Deciding on what length my hooklink should be has always been a bit of a mystery to me, so I've found reading the above interesting. The last carp fishing session I had not only did I blank, but I didn't even get a run. In fact very few fish were caught by fellow anglers. I varied my baits, boiles, pellet, corn, pop ups, etc. I also tried some float fishing & briefly surface fishing with a controller, but there are so many ducks etc on my water at the moment this proved impossible (they do look very cute at this time of the year though) I also changed one of my rigs for a different material, but probably all my hooklengths were about 6" long. From reading what you guys have said above I reckon that next time on a day when things are slow I'll try radically changing the length of the rig. I suppose it can't do any harm.
  24. I tend to change mine after a couple of sessions, but unless there's any sign of wear I don't change it after I've caught a few fish. If I keep on catching, as long as the hook is still sharp & I'm not losing fish, I just carry on with the same rig.
  25. I recently purchased some new rods. First time out with them not only did I catch on both rods, but I actually christened one of the rods within a few minutes of my first cast, landing a nice carp of 7 or 8 lbs. Very unusual for me I should add, the blanking scenario you describe is more the norm.
